  1. You are so right when you say desire is not enough. A big part of Nursing is common sense and there are nurse's who have none. I am by no means brushing aside the grades that are needed; your patients deserve the best that you can give them. This is where honesty comes in. You need to know when you go to work that you have the skills and knowledge to handle all and any situations that may arise.A code, a fall, a seizure, an actively dying patient, the patient who was just told her daughter died, and the son or daughter who feels if they leave their parent's bedside they will die alone. I don't know a nurse who doesn't believe in GOD because if you think your success is by you alone--then you are alone.
  2. It seems like you are working with nurse's who unfortunately are not taking their job seriously. Leaving the medications at the bedside is so wrong. In my years of nursing, I made mistakes and the nurse that tells you she never did is someone that needs to be watched. I also worked with one of the best Wound Care nurse's in the business. When she needed help, we helped her. If we got stuck, she was there for us. It was a win/win situation which there does not seem to be much of out there any more. Whenever I had something to say to a fellow nurse,CNA,etc I did it behind closed doors. Hope things get better.
  3. I agree about cheaters. They do the whole nursing career a disservice. They are also a threat to the patients. More then once in my career I have seen the absolute panic in their eyes. One evening stands out in my mind. I was working 3-11 shift and there was no supervisor. All of a sudden I was being paged to another floor; I went to help a fellow nurse. When I got there the nurse was waving a suction catheter around, yelling that she forgot how to suction a tracheotomy. The patient was pale and scared. I took the catheter and got her out of the room, explained to the patient what I was to do,got a clean catheter hooked it up and suctioned him. This is what Cheaters do. I will never forget the look on that man's face.
