  1. KalipsoRed21. Okay. So you believe your teacher/boss has no right to make assignments and determine when the assignment must be completed. Got it.
  2. One of the reasons a college degree is valued (and this is not an original thought of mine), is it proves you can stick with a task over the course of years, even the boring and tedious parts, even the parts that we find distasteful. Students don't have to be perfect, that's why they're students and not professionals. Sometimes they'll flake out or whatever, but *over time* they should be improving. But they need to have the self-awareness that while being the student doesn't make their opinions worth-less, there are other people with more knowledge, experience and (*gasp*) Authority ?
  3. The above poster, very much. if the student doesn't turn in their assignments on time, will they get the medications to the patients on time?
  4. Did you have this problem with non-nursing jobs? Is it the feeling that you are the one responsible for the patient's well-being and you're simply not up to the task yet? You might want to consider a less stressful nursing job--or one with more safety nets, where you're not the ultimate repsonsible person (for instance, a doctor's office). I had a simliar experience to you, wound up working in the pharmaceutical industry (on a call-in informational line) where I could use my nursing/medical knowledge but not have the fear of harming anybody.
  5. I recently had to write up a CNA at the LTC facility where I work because I caught her sleeping. I also do PDN--overnight--and because I am all-too-human, (and terrified of falling asleep) I get the extra large coffee at the drivethrough on my way in to work. I bring my ipad to play with during downtime and keep me alert. And if I feel my head nod, or my hands start to droop on the keyboard, I get up and go through a jumping-jacks and stretching routine (if the mom's watching me through the baby monitor, she probably thinks I'm completely nuts! But I haven't fallen asleep.
