How many hours is legal ?
Re EU Directive, a lot of NH's and some staff don't pay any heed of it and as I've said above are only concerned with having qualified cover and making extra money. This sickens me especially when so many new nurses are looking for work just to exist.

How many hours is legal ?
I suppose some may say its sour grapes, but I reckon its downright greed and the NH is only concerned about having qualified cover, and not about quality of care. The EU directive only gives recommendations and the NHS as a responsible employer wouldn't condone someone working these hours on a weekly basis, it would cause a riot. This person doesn't take holidays so works this 52 weeks a year. I have voiced my concerns to the NH but it falls on deaf ears. I doubt the unions would accept this either.

How many hours is legal ?
Hi all, I've come out of retiremnt to supplement my pension and working (16 hrs weekly) as a bank nurse in a care home. A staff member there works full time at the NHS (37hrs)and has just received a contract for 30 hours (weekly) from the care home. Is this legal ? This person also mixes days and nights in the same week. this person is 56 yrs old.

Osgood Schlatter's Disease
Osgood Schlatter Disease I have a friend whose 14yr old son has been diagnosed with this disease. I understand its caused by stress on growing bones(would this be right)?. Athletic's and sport is his life, but he's having to endure a lot of pain to participate and compete. I've searched various websites for information but rest, ice and vitamin supplements seem to be the only treatment. I wondered if any ortho nurses can offer more information regarding treatment, or advice on this disease. Janey

Can an American RN work in the UK?
Taryn Sector1.net is a good site for jobs within the North East of England (near the border), covering areas between Berwick and Leeds and includes Newcastle and Teeside areas. Once you've clicked job search type in nurse and it will give you the vacancies in the different nursing disciplines and grades within these areas.

manipulative patient
Did Sjoe and Orca read the question under discussion ????? It wasn't about a young BPD patient. That was a question posted elsewhere, had I wished to answer that question, I would have responded quite differently. The question was about the maipulative behaviour of a patient with 'a mild fluctuating dementia' who is in LTC. The features of a Dementia is global impairment in cognitive functioning (this includes memory). Now I deduced from the question this was and elderly person since its mostly elderly in such a setting!!!! I dont know about the USA, but in the UK with a diagnoses of such then would allow for memory impairment, and traditional management of BPD is hardly suitable in this instance. No Sjoe BPD doesn't discriminate, and occurs in other parts of the world. I wonder at such a comment !!.

manipulative patient
Why does anyone seek attention ?. Seeking attention is often because their feeling lonely and helpless, insecure, frightened, unloved, unworthy, insecure or just plum bored. In an unfamiliar environment without any control thats how I'd feel. In my limited experience consistency in the form of positive feedback a smile, a wink, a complimentary word in passing, a cuddle and a peck on the cheek, with a reminder I care often brings a begrudged smile, that's pleasure enough. Try it......... you might be surprised.
