Bariatrics are really easy once you understand the orders. The protein shakes are bought in the store. Talk to your don about having someone see the pts before accepting them

Switch floors if you can

There were many disgruntled nurses and officers. Plus after 6 months the region director decided I was making too much and wanted to reapply to my own job at a lesser pay grade. I had already taken a pay cut from medical facility to work there and HR had tried to match my base pay (no weekend or shift diff just hourly rate on pay stubs) to get the pay rate. There were issues with too much mandated OT and issues with some correctional personnel. People either love it or hate. But nurses do not usually stay over a year there. I would prefer the county facilities which do treat you better and feel safer.

I worked at bop Tucson. There are politics and issues. No one lasts long there

My unit made it mandatory or look for another job. Plain and simple

I have an hour drive to work in a different state. I live in a rural area that has one hospital for 7 counties and a few ltc places. No one was hiring here including the hospital. So I go up north across state lines to work in a hospital where most citizens of my area go anyway. No entertainment here. High rent high taxes high medicaid use no jobs

Review dialysis and terms. It is very trchnical

It depends on the prison system and medical level of the facility. Some have medical units. Some just have pill line sick call and true emergency care only. Ask what the prison is security level and medical level

Give a few weeks notice. It will help in the long run.

Military is not a plan b because everyone else is turning you down. Military is a job, commitment and privilege to serve the US not a job for just anyone. You must be a part of the country and proud to be American and able to fight for the country in war.

I want to switch to mom baby care. I worked SNF as a new grad (only job open) for four years with some time as a prison nurse. It was incredibly had to get a hospital job. I am now 7 months into med surg. After a year I want to transfer to ob or post partum

I did ADN then BSN completion. Samw content just more papers to write. ADN usually has more clinical hours and BSN more research hours.

Yes healthcare is different. I have a NC license and go by both state practice acts. But compared to AZ medicaid is way too easy to get in these states and pays less. AZ allows people to buy medicaid plans for low premiums not just giving it away. Plus there even on min wage working part time, people don't qualify for free medicaid and food stamps plus they kick adults off rather fast unless long term care or certified disabled. It is different in cost of living here as well. It is way more expensive to rent or buy here. I am struggling to make ends meet whereas there we were saving money.

The area I came from had higher turnover but pay never suffered and cost of living was half to a third of what it is here. But it was a lower medicaid use area. Even fast food there paid on average 10/ hr with minimum wage being only 7.25/hr. The higher tourism and welfare abuse attributes to pay more than military.

You can only be licensed in one state at time. It took a few months to get full endorsement. The finger print card takes time plus you need a state ID

VA prefers BSN and sometimes only hires BSN regardless of vet status or military connection. I worked for them as a student nurse tech in a psych program(wanted ER ,tele or ICU) because my experience was as a behavioral care tech and MHT i then did my student internship/ preceptorship for a month in the same VA in their ER (only student there as the other two failed finals). I was approached by the clinical leader to apply as they wanted me on the unit as a new grad. I applied had several references from the ER including DRs and my school. I interviewed on 2 units otherwise. HR denied me because I had no BSZn just three associates and had transferred straight to BSN and was planning on going for active duty. I ended up having a baby and health issues since and can't go active but it was a good plan.

Adjust the wow to your height. Take tylenol prior to shift. Stretches pre shift. Weight building

I started in rehab and sub acute. Not recommended for a new grad. ICU ER psych maternity and peds are specialized and once in those it is hard to branch out to med surg or insurance. Same with corrections

In some prisons you are required to refer to them as inmates not patients

Military has nothing to do with pay rates in the area. I came from a huge military area that also had nuclear weapons companies and space research. The pay was a lot higher than here and cost of living lower. Pay is because it is a tourist area. Same with cost of living

The one I worked at was 10 hour shifts. It is busy depending on the shift and medical level of the facility. Med pass is like 200 people to a nurse or pharmacist. Some of them have pharmacists doing pill line too. New intakes sock call inmate and staff emergencies. Plus at BOP nurses are also officers and weapons trained
