  1. i was originally liscensed as an rn in mn and we moved to va! my question is if the ceu's or conact hours we recieved in mn are "official ceu's?" they are not required in va???!! weird! i want to keep my mn license current, which you can do without practicing in the state as long as you have ceu's! my rn director said that in va the ceu's have to be applied for inadvance by the presenter and that of coorifice costs $$$. for example in mn pals class (2 days) you recieve 16 contact hours/ceu's ~~~~ va you get nothing! they are just not required for renewing~~ and not offered at inservices etc! are the ceu's in mn "unofficial"??? i just want to keep my license in mn too! thanks
  2. The person who has contacted me is in a new role as employee retentionetc, and she is not HR. I hope things still remain confidential. I have suggestions or comments about the unit bu is it appropriate to discuss an RN who I (as well as many staff) feel is unsafe? It has been brought up to our new Rn manager and it seems like it is not being taken seriously! Thanks for your feedback!
  3. HI, I am leaving my RN position (r/t a move) and have an exit interview! What type of things are discussed? Do I bring up my concerns for the unit? Problems I have had? Things that worked out well? Is it generally confidential? Any suggestions? ~~~ Thanks
  4. JR I know what you mean, I work charge a lot and I am currently orienting a new grad! It is not fair to you because this is your chance to learn and have a back up. I always feel like the new grad I am precepting is being short changed! I brought it up to my manager and said it was not fair and that I felt she needed more orientation. Everyone is different and everyone learns at different speeds. I would be afraid of cardiac but people tell me that they would scared of peds, where I work! I think it can't hurt to let someone know how you feel before you melt down. Maybe you can look for support or strength in numbers with the other new grads! Starting out is hard but stick with it I am sure youar ea fabulous nurse!
  5. Hey MN nurses, a friend told me about this site (you you ami_j). My husband and I are moving to Virginia at the end of the month and I can tell you their postings are even quieter! I posted a few times, with no response for a long time. I will definatetly miss the snow but not the COLD! I am a peds RN in burnsville at Fairview Ridges (evenings) I know they have already posted my position! That is ok as long as I find a great job in VA. Anyone have any comments or ideas about moving from a general peds floor to PICU or a step down floor!
  6. Is the unit your are on too fast pase? It may be that cardiac care is not your thing?! Did the hospital you work at have a new grad program? That might help. When I started 2 years ago my hospital did not have any programs in place but now they are working on it. Is the nurse: patient ratio too much or patient acuity? It might be something to discuss with your nurse manager. Hope things go a little smoother and do not lose confidence in yourself!!!
  7. Thanks for the info! Does Henrico's Doctor's Hospital have a special care nursery or a level II nursery? Have you checked out any salary info? I just want to compare it to Minnesota.
  8. thank you, it is nice to hear great things from someone who has lived there! i will be looking at the hospitals in the area and looking for a job! best of luck to you with nursing school! thanks!
  9. hi, i am an peds rn relocating to the richmond virginia area (from minnesota) with my husband and i need some help. i have found a couple of hospitals in the area but wondering if anyone knows more? one is a children's hospital in richmond, cjw and vcu medical. i am interested in staying with peds or newborn. any other suggestions for places of employment? what are salaries like? most importantly... is va as beautiful as everyone says? thanks! paula k
