  1. yes, i was in the doctor's office with my son. the office is divided into 3 sitting areas, one divided from the other by either a half wall or a play area. anyway, one of the other mom's opened up a snack bag of peanut butter crackers. in the section i was sittin in, a kid started turning red, and wheezing. the child was approximately 10-12. they rushed him in the back. needless to say the lady's crackers had to go. the smell of the peanut butter was all it took.......side note, my son is allergic to flour ( no cakes, cookies, pasta, etc). when he goes to my moms house and she makes bread, he could be in another room and start sneezing. fresh flour really gets him, however once its cooked, it has to be ingested or touched for him to get sick.
  2. hi, im a nursing student at north carolina central at the present time and seriously considering a transfer. where did you study for your rn? what facitlity do you work at currently? if you would rather not share that information, could i at least get what city?
  3. check out this website and use wake county for your location. this should give u a listing of the available lpn jobs. i know some of them are in the prison. it should also give you a pay range..... http://www.ncesc.com/individual/jis/jisMain.asp?init=true
  4. hi im nikki. i live in sanford. im doing the daily commute to north carolina central univ, but am hoping to move to durham in january. im finishing up my prereqs and hoping i make it into the second leg of the program at central. its very very competitive.
  5. i too, would luv to c alot more male nurses, especially of color. i try to sell the job to my nephews, they're not hearing it. so, im left with my hopes. its hard to find african american men in the medical field period, especially as nurses.
  6. maybe i should move to bmore or tampa.....lol.
  7. you'll do great. dont even worry about it.
  8. + where are you in school?
  9. i 4got this in my last post. this is a website about school loans; it has some good info. http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/CollegeandFamily/Cutcollegecosts/P36836.asp
  10. i get scared everytime i think of the debt im accruing (sp). im just gonna pray that it works out ok. my brother and his wife have 100,000 between them in college debt. im way way way below that figure but my brother's first job offer was for approx. 80,000 and shes doing pretty well herself. so its not like they cant afford it...my broke butt is looking at approximately $25000 in school loans, and prob wont make a cent over 35,000 when i finish. this post just depressed me. someone, quick, tell me im doing the right thing going for my bsn.
  11. my aunt has her msw. she says if u want to eat, dont get a msw. she was the director of the county mental health for approx 5 years, and has worked there for approximately 20 years. yes, she made 6 figures, but the job ended this summer when the state came in and revamped the system. the state is phasing out mental facilities faster than u can count to 3. my godmother is in social work at unc, and she's doing 2-3 ppl's jobs because they have drastically reduced staff. masters in psychology.....i have a friend that has his masters, and a girlfriend and a sister that just finished up their phd. with a masters, you will definitely be working for someone, and your options will be limited. my girlfriend is teaching at two universities, while pursuing her phd. i guess it all depends on what you want to do with your degree rather this would b a good fix for u. as far as the psych nursing or np goes, they're trying to pass a law to permit the nurses ability to disperse medication to patients once u finish a few classes. if you have prior experience in this, you would probably be of value. thats my 2 cents. good luck on ur decision
  12. i dont understand why central's testing numbers are so low. they permit approx 45 students in a year. why are only 11 ppl taking boards? im so frustrated with them i could scream......the community college i was going to attend has a 100 average. what would you do? get your adn in a city with lower cost of living, or take the exact amount of time, work like a dog and go to school to finish with my bsn and approximately $25,000 in debt?
  13. i have a friend in class with me at central...he's a cna at the moment.
  14. yeah, im trying to figure out rather i should come home to the local community college. im finishing up my prereqs this year at central. im worried because ive heard so many negative things about the program. i've heard extremely positive things, but the negatives are down right scarey. if i went to the community college i would have less debt, and less classes. i have almost all of my prereqs completed for the comm collegel, minus my a&p's which i would have to take over at the community college, because of credit issues. at the community college i have 24 hr day care arranged, im closer to my family. the bad part is im stuck in a lil town (not saying durham is metropolitan). im just trying to way my options. ive been weighing them for almost 6 months now, my crazy, non decision making butt needs to make up my mind. ..........................heeeeeeeelppppppppppppppppppp
  15. are you or do you know anyone that graduated from nccu's bsn program? was it a positive experience? how equipped were you for your first job?
  16. I think I've had them all. I had Cingular for 2 years. It was okay. There were alot of dead spots, but I wouldnt go as far to say it sucked. It definitely does better in larger cities. I also had Alltel at the same time I had the Cingular on my other phone. Alltel did well in the more rural areas. Personally, Id stay clear of either one. My friend, and both sisters have sprint, and travel b/w the durham and raleigh area and have problems as soon as they step outside of the city limits. As long as you're in the metro area, you'll prob be okay. You have to watch sprint though, they'll jack up your bill. AT&T, :angryfire whatever you do dont sign a contract with these people. I dont know about the service in the area, but they're customer service sucks. I had them in Seattle, and to every service complaint i was instructed to buy a new phone, mind you i had just spent $100 on one with them. At the moment, I have verizon, and travel all over raleigh and durham and have no problem, step into some of the rural areas and your service is through. I like them so far. I've only had them for about 6 months. I havent been too far with it.
  17. im so damn long winded..okay, part 2. lol. you can def walk around in raleigh from club to club, granted you find a parking space. remember also that these areas run into each other without borders, so you can be in any one of the other cities within a 5-10 min drive. for what you're looking for, i would def try raleigh. if i decide to stay in nc, i'll prob move to raleigh. right now im approximately 30 mins south, and attend school in durham everyday. if you have any questions feel free to ask.
  18. chapel hill is nice, so is raleigh, durham, and cary. it just depends on what youre looking for. sounds to me like your looking for a safe place that has lots of entertainment options while offering a safe atmosphere. chapel hill is full of tarheels. the streets are filled with college kids which could def get on your nerves. thats just my opinion though. durham is nice. its a tad run down in areas, its screamin revitalization. cary is nice but is more family oriented and snobby. now lets talk about raleigh, you can find 2 br ranging from 600 to 1200 and they're both nice. of course one will have granite counters, but who really needs that. raleigh is about a 15-20 min drive depending on what side, u will have to take traffic into consideration which will :angryfire :angryfire burn u up at times. there's hockey in raleigh, and our large concert venues are there, along with club after club after club and it sounded like you were def looking for night life. dont look for any eccentric (sp) form of public trans in nc period. you better have a car.
  19. okay, i was contemplating moving to tx, i.e. houston. doing some research today, i saw that tx has a problem with flooding. is this every area of tx, or is it limited to certain regions. i was looking for sun year round. im not interested in ca or fl. this is discouraging, can you guys help me out.
  20. bainbridge in the park is not bad. i was actually thinkin of moving there while finishing up my nursing degree. duke is approximately 10-15 minutes from there. warning: they just completed a new housing project about 5 mins drive from that apt. its okay, personally, i would look for something different. what rent range are you looking for and maybe i can help you out? the staff at bainbridge is great. youre about 10 mins north of the brand new mall. thats definitely an advantage, but for a new comer id def be lookin in a different area, or closer to the mall. let me know if you need any help.
  21. im a nursing student in the raleigh-durham area and am really not excited about staying in the area despite the promising outlook. i've been looking at houston, tx or at least tx. i know responses would be based on individual experiences, but do we have any rn's from tx? what would u say are the pros and cons of workin in your general area? also, why do you love or hate texas? school districts? housing costs? thanks guys
