  1. I love this thread. Thanks for starting it. I have two that I remember well. The first was an elderly patient who was in a room way at the end of the long hall in an old hospital I worked in during my first year as an RN. When I came to her bedside she said something like "I knew that was you coming. It's funny, but even hearing your footsteps makes me feel safe" Another one was a little girl who came to the ER one night with an earache, but she was so pale and thin we all knew something more serious was going on. (turned out to be ALL) I had to start an IV on her and take some blood. She was so scared so we used EMLA cream and I gave her a little stuffed lion that was part of some donations that were given to our department. She sent me a Valentine card a few weeks later saying thank you and that I was her favourite nurse. All the feels!
  2. I have to add names of boy/girl twins I took care of named T'yan and T'yana. Poor kids have to share a name! There was also a child named Gods Loving Kindness. There were siblings who were similiarly named. Oy!
  3. Someone else may have said this, but looking for IV sites on everyone, everywhere...:-)
  4. I am in my 50's and for the past 12 years I've been working as a telephone advice nurse. Upsides: better schedules, sit down job, less infectious risk, I get all my breaks on time! Downsides: sit down job, can be a bit dull at times, no hands-on contact with patients. There are jobs out there. Just keep searching!
  5. My daughter found out she was accepted for the Fall 2016 intake. She got a letter on Sept 24th. Now, a it's a year of waiting to start, but it's great to have a definite date at last! She completed her Academic Foundations courses in the Winter '15 semester. Good luck to all who are waiting.
  6. Thank you so much for the reply Rayanne203. She did not get an offer for Jan '16- she was waitlisted, but it is now full so she's going to apply for Sept '16 intake. They open for applications tomorrow! It sounds like she might get it this time...it's just the awful waiting to find out! Congratulations on getting a seat. You must be so excited to get started!
  7. My daughter has just finished her Academic Foundations Certificate this semester, in preparation for the BSN program. Anyone else here in the same situation? She has applied for both the Sept '15 and Jan '16 intakes. No word yet. Does anyone have information about when the offers are sent out for these intakes? Also, any current Douglas students who can share how long it took for them to get an offer for a seat in the program, following completion of the Academic Foundations? It's so difficult to be waiting and not knowing how many applicants might be ahead of her for offers.
  8. There are quite a few kids who will probably live in my head forever. I worked at a Pediatric hospital. One day, a 2 year old was carried in by a social worker after being discovered alone in an apartment with his mother's dead body. She had died of an OD at least 5 days before. Neighbours heard the child crying but I guess it was nothing unusual. He was dehydrated and had lost a lot of weight (according to the social worker who had had previous contact with him) I'll never forget the smell. I could barely refrain from vomiting while trying to clean him up. I had to put on two masks and spray the front of the mask with room deodorizer just to be able to get near him. His little body was soaking wet and ice cold. Fortunately, he recovered well with no permanent damage. I often wonder what his life turned out like. I can still see him tucked up in our crib under the warm blankets desperately sucking down a bottle of Pedialyte....
  9. I had to sign up just to share mine! Gods Loving Kindness. (not even kidding) She had a sibling who was named with a similiar religious phrase and the JW parents didn't want it shortened. I often wondered if they changed their names when they grew up. Poor kids. Twins named T'nay and T'naya (boy and girl) What, you couldn't think of TWO names?? Twins with the last name of Alexander. First names: Brandy and Champagne
