  1. I have my first pharm test coming up this week and I have gotten myself so confused. I am hoping someone can help me understand a concept. Please understand I am NOT asking to just be told the answer but to help me understand why the answer is what it is: Are most drugs water soluble or lipid soluble? I have in my notes that most are water soluble so they can be excreted by the kidneys and so they don't cross the blood brain barrier (which only lipid soluble drugs can do). Then in the book(and another part of my notes) it says that more are lipid soluble so they can pass through cell membranes. The part in the book says "most systemic drugs are formulated to be lipid soluble so they can move through the cell membrane, even oral tabs and capsules that must be sufficiently water soluble to dissolve in the aqueous fluid of the stomach and small intestines." If they are lipid soluble, how are they stopped from going into the brain? And if they are water soluble, what is the liver doing since it doesn't need to change the composition for the kidneys? I can honestly see how it would make sense both ways, and for me to learn it, it has to make sense!!
  2. There are so many schools in Missouri for nursing and Chamerlain is probably the most expensive. I do have a friend in their program now and she really likes it. It is a good school but pricey. UMSL is good too, I have a friend there too :) I am going to Maryville so I am a little partial to that school, you may want to check it out. It's a very good school!!
  3. I got my letter last night. It said once you send in the paper that says you accept your spot they will send you out a nursing packet that tells you everything you need to know. Does anyone know anything about the scrubs we need? And can I order a stethoscope that I want or do we have to have a certain one? I'm sure it will be in the packet, I just like to be prepared :)
  4. I haven't gotten mine either. My advisor said they may take up to 3 weeks after our phone calls before we get them, hopefully not that long but could be. I e-mailed him and he enrolled me in the summer course I am taking but I haven't done Fall '14 yet. Is that what opens next week, fall? It's good to know when orientation is though!!
  5. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1392973607640932/ Put this in your address bar and see if it pops up!
  6. Yes ladies, that is what it's called... I set it up as a "closed group" let me do some research and see if I can't figure out how to find it :) If not you can message me your e-mails (or just names) and I can invite you to the group.
  7. Hi MarqueMark!! Let me know if you can't find the group :) Congrats on making it in! I can't wait till we all meet!
  8. I created a closed Facebook group for our class. If anyone wants to join it's called "Maryville WEC C/O 2016"
  9. Yes it is!!! I love your name by the way, it's my daughters name :)
  10. In micro and history now then one elective over the summer!! I start core nursing in August!! I just found out I may be able to start in June though! I emailed my advisor so we shall see :)
  11. I'm going to try to take the skills lab. I can't take health promotions (long story) this summer. I have one more class to take this summer so I hope they still let me take the skills lab!!
  12. Treeeee, I just messaged you and Mcallister, I just got your message too and replied :)
  13. Treeee, let's set up that FB group!!!! I've used them before and LOVE them!! They are great and I'd love to get to know people before we start :) When you say summer, do you mean this summer (before we start??) If you do, I didn't know that was an option. My advisor told me all the info about orientation would be in the nursing packet that is coming. There will be a separate letter to say we are accepted and then a nursing packet too. It will tell us what classes we take, how to sign up and a whole bunch of other info we will need! I can't wait to get it!!
  14. Congrats to everyone who got in!!! treeeee, I would LOVE to do a FB group. Let me know what we need to do!!! nwayne, Goldfarb is an awesome school, I have a friend that goes there now :) mclavin, I got a phone call but I was called very early (my adviser said I was only the second call he made) so maybe that just haven't called you yet!!
  15. I'm sure there are/will be many of these posts lately but I am sooooooo excited!!! My advisor just called and told me I am being offered a spot in the program!! I've worked so hard to get here and I finally see things moving forward!! I hope everyone here can share the same news when they get in!!!
  16. My advisor just called and I've been ACCEPTED!!!!!!!! They said they just made decisions and didn't want to make us wait for our letters!! The letters are still coming but may be another 2 weeks. He said I was only the 2nd person he had called. I hope to hear from everyone here that they got in!!!!!
  17. Still no letters!!!! I am getting more and more impatient as the days go on!! Anyone hear anything yet??
  18. Not yet. And I'm starting to get REALLY anxious to get it!!!
  19. Did you get in there?? Are you still looking at Maryville too?? I can't go there due to my schedule (working/single mom) but I've only heard good things about Goldfarb. Good luck!!
  20. Thank you for your reply Srowlett!! Reading what you wrote does make me very nervous though. Do you think it is possible to pass this program as a single mom of 2, working full time during the day?? My understanding was that class was 2 night a week with clinical every other weekend, are you on campus more frequently than that?? I did know that there is one semester without clinicals but I thought the 3rd class was then on a weekend. What hospitals do you do your clincals at?? Sorry for all the questions, your the first person I have talked to who is in the program and I want to know as much as possible!!
  21. Oh great. Well you better tell us too so we're prepared....
  22. Wow. From what I know, it's 2 days a week every week for classes and 1 day a week (on the weekend except in on semester) for clinicals. I didn't know about skill sign offs. I just assumed that would be done in skills lab when you already have class scheduled. As a single mom, it's going to be pretty hard to afford daycare for all that plus while working full time. This program is already stressing me out and I don't even know if I got in yet!
  23. I wonder how they would take work history into consideration? I was never asked any of that info. There was a guy in my chem class last year who said he got in even though his GPA was lower than others who applied all because he was a man and they wanted more "diversity" in the program. I don't really know what to think. I really hope we all get in!
  24. Idavis, I haven't heard anything about what GPA they are looking for. I got a letter last night from Mayville, opened it up and all I saw was a big CONGRATULATIONS in the first sentence and my heart just stopped, I was so excited!! Then I kept reading and it was just a letter congratulating me on making the honor roll, it had nothing to do with the nursing program! I have a 4.0 but I am worried because I only took 19 credit hours there, not the 20 they say you need. I was told by my adviser that it was ok but I've heard from other students that they had to take an extra class to get the 20 credit hours. :/ When did you get your letter last year?? Was it at the end of February, early March??? Do you think the 19 credit hour thing is going to be a problem for me?? What GPA where you wait listed for last year?
  25. Are you accepted to universities? If so and you tuition is covered can you move into a dorm? My university has dorms and apartments, the cost rolls into the cost if tuition. Living alone is hard, no doubt but it's definitely doable.
