  1. So $40/hr is not high? I am not an occ health nurse, but an RN
  2. I recently took a contract position for a health and safety provider. It was advertised as ten hours per week with occasional campaigns of 2-3 days length. I agreed to the job based on those hours. Since starting I am averaging only 7 hrs and less per week which is very hard to live on. When I asked if this is how things will remain I was told that there are no more hours and I cost too much per hour to have me doing technician duties. Sometimes I am asked to do 1 hr of work for a medical, and have a significant commute, which according to my boss is ok because I am a contractor not an employee. My question is whether there is anything I can do. In my contract it states I am not allowed to work for the competition for a 3 year period.
  3. Just curious what the going rate is in Canada? I'm a contractor and new to this field.
  4. It isn't specific enough to be slander as no names used but it is a small town, small facility and small number of nurses. Not hard to figure out who it refers to.
  5. Was just in a similar situation. Palliative patient who was not happy with his diagnosis and complained about every aspect of his care. Management knew he complained about everything but when he complained about me, next thing I know I am gone. License now under review. Malicious managers will do whatever they can do to remove staff they don't like. I don't think my competence was the problem, nor my patient care. Sometimes patients take out their frustrations on us and don't care if they are destroying your career. Document everything, and if you think you have a problem patient or if you are experiencing issues with a coworker or manager, document even more. Create a paper trail, you may need to protect your license when you least expect it.
  6. No not friends with him. Manager became aware of it because her daughter was. Just wondering if normal slander/libel laws apply.
  7. What about when the patient complains about his care on Facebook? Are there any rules about this or can they post whatever they want?
  8. Have any of you ever experienced a situation where a patient was complaining about his care online on Facebook? Are there any legal implications or can patients post anything they want about their care? Since nurses are not allowed to post information that could lead back to someone they've cared for or speak about it in public, what are the rules for patients? Are there any?
