If you live along 36, you can take the DM bus straight to campus during rush hours.

Holy Moses I am tired of worrying about this. I think my cortisol levels are through the roof, I am pretty much worn out from having an adrenaline rush every time I get a new email. I don't even care right now, I'm just tired of not knowing.

Yikes. That is a decent sized commitment. Regis is a good school, though.

Haha after that email yesterday, I feel like the admissions office must have been getting harrassed fairly regularly by angry students. How much is a deposit at Regis or other schools?

Applying to UC - Denver for Spring 2014 UCAN Program
Yeah, no interview. It was an interview exercise. I don't know how much I should say, but we had to work together with 4 other people in a group to solve a and organize a problem they gave us. There were 2 evaluators watching us which then asked us questions after we presented our answers as a group. I think it was an interesting exercise. They basically wanted to see how we worked in groups.

Yeah I honestly don't know what they learned from that interview other than that we work together well... for 20 minutes in front of people judging our responses. It's also the first time they've ever done that type of interview so I'm not super confident they are relying on it too heavily for selection. I don't know if I did a great job in the interview either though. I didn't talk much but felt like I worked with my team well and in a quick manner. I didn't quite know how to answer one of the questions, but I felt like it was okay. I thought it was funny how they basically admitted at the end that they cared more about GPA than anything. I agree it is a good way of determining future academic success, but I feel that they learned very little about our personalities.

I really really want to go to CU and it's the only place I applied (I'll apply for their traditional program this month if I don't get in) so do you mind if I have your spot if you get in ?

'A' group here. I'm really anxious about it, but I have been doing lots of research in preparation and making sure I have answers to all the normal questions. I don't think I've ever been as excited to start school as I am right now. 8:45 seems like a good time of day for me, being a morning person.

Yikes this sounds so crazily competitive. More competitive than even how I have heard law school and medical school are. I want to only go to CU because they are an amazing school with great facilities, connection to healthcare providers like UCH, and great faculty. I am going to be prepping for this interview for the next two weeks straight. It seems silly that they would combine all your past GPAs. Judging me on classes I took over 11 years ago when I was 17. I think having a science degree helps a lot because I am nowhere near as good on paper as many people say I need to be for this program.

Well that isn't encouraging. haha! makes me wonder what the people who actually get in are like. They're all people who have college degrees and 4.0s but have been working as a CNA for 5 years. Well I'm sure we'll all do great this time. Colorado Hopeful, what kind of questions have they asked you in the past? were any tailored to your essay at all? I'm a white male. So I'm not diverse at all. My wife is Asian but I didn't talk about that in my essay, I talked about my diversity as a student and my experiences while volunteering working with under-served communities

With a 4.0 and 3.9 you should be a easy interview and acceptance for them. Not to mention most of the people who get in seem to be in the 3.3-3.7 range. There must be something else wrong with your application. What is the focus of your essay? What was your major? Also with a GPA like that, you'd be a shoo-in for most medical schools which are notoriously much more competitive. There has to be something weird that they don't like, or maybe they think you're not likely to go there because you have such good scores.

Reese1982 . They should still consider you. I am taking an anatomy class in the fall as well. don't withdraw. Jenbun02 . Sorry to hear you didn't get an interview You'll get one next time. I am not 100% sure what my prereq GPA is. I am missing the anatomy class but of the rest of the prereqs, I have a non-weighted GPA of 3.75. Hopefully I'll do well in Anatomy as well. I went to school in another state and my undergrad GPA was 3.65 but I took some credits during high school at a community college and my GPA there was more like 3.2 so I am not sure if they combine those since the community college credit transferred to the university but was on a separate transcript.

Wow mfallona That would be quite a flight out just for the interview. I hope they do allow the skype version for you guys who are far far away. I don't have the Anatomy requirement done yet but I'm enrolled this fall at Community college of Denver. I hope they don't see that as a weakness. I'm hoping they looked at my transcript, saw I got good grades in Organic Chem and biochem and will give me a pass, Hah! Anyway, I know we're all going to do great! Good luck to all of you!

Haha thanks nurseKG#6 , but I didn't start the thread. I hope I can wow them with my extensive knowledge of buffers and flow cytometry data. I think you're right though, I have some experience in the hospital but not nearly as much as others so we as a class will need eachother for help quite often. I can bring a good science base and knowledge of bench science that might be needed to help those who don't quite understand how studies are conducted, etc.

What kind of questions did they ask you? I am curious how they get to know us any better if they shoot out questions that apply to anybody in the group. You'd think they would want to ask us specific questions about our application or our specific experiences. That's hard to do with 3 other people there.

I JUST GOT MY INVITE! I'm so flipping excited. ac1125- I work on campus and if there is one thing I can tell you, it is that you should find a hotel far away from campus. The areas right near by are kinda... not the greatest (wonderful people, just very disadvantaged.) Actually, the SpringHill Suites right across the street is brand new but might be a little pricey. Stay away from stuff right on Colfax too, those are kinda seedy. There is a super 8 on 6th street and 225 that would likely be cheap and close but I'd have to look up the RTD bus schedule for you. If you want to know how to get places via public transport, go to RTD.com and look through some of their bus lines and maps, but first go on google maps and set a destination and get directions and set it to use public transport, it will give you an idea of which buses take you where. In general you can take the 15 or the 20 from downtown (I recommend the 20), the DM will take you there from Broomfield, Westminster or boulder. Hope that helps!

It has been a couple days since the applications closed. Does anybody know how long before they start sending out interview invites? I'm so nervous.

Applying to UC - Denver for Spring 2014 UCAN Program
Would they make you write an essay on interview day? I have no idea, I've never heard of any school doing that. Has anybody been invited yet? They are supposed to do invites by the 15th I thought. EDIT: Just reread the info on the webpage. I was off by a month. It says: "Program is tentatively scheduled for July 26, 2013. Applicants who are selected for interviews will be notified no later than July 15, 2013. Applicants who are not selected"

What in the world happened to CU Denver's College of Nursing??? Unbelievable...
I work on the CU Anschutz Campus and am applying to the accelerated program for spring 2014. The campus is pretty new and the expansion of the University hospital to double their beds probably means they need to work on placing a lot of qualified and solid staffing to ensure the same quality of care throughout the hospital. I bet that impacts who gets placed where because it kind of messes up the works until everything gets stabilized as far as healthcare goes at the new wing of the hospital. I am sure once the new VA is finished and everybody moves into the news wings at bout Children's and University Hospital, then things will slowly get to a more normal state.
