New BSN Grad - Should I get my NP now?
I started my job as a new grad in October. I was simultaneously completing a school program during these past 10 months. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't, and I would advise everyone against it. I feel that I'm not as good of a nurse as I could be because my time and energy (mental and physical) has been so divided. Give yourself a few years.

I went to the bookstore today to ask for a little clarity on the book situation. This is what the girl there said: the books are ONLY available in the bundles (e-book or e-book + actual books). On their website they list the book bundle as well as a few individual required books. According to her, those are redundant (they're in the bundle) and they don't even sell them individually. I feel a little hesitant to buy all the books at once. It didn't necessarily sound like it saves you much money anyway. For me, I think I'll just look for first semester books online. Also, if you are going to get them at the bookstore, they're not in until Friday (8/8), and she said to park as close as possible because they need to use a dolly to get the books out to your car.

I won't be able to work during the program, and I can't get loans either because I already have a bachelor's degree. I'll have to rely on savings and friends and family. If you've filled out your FAFSA and you have a low income, you can qualify for the Board of Governors waiver. That will waive the cost of the units you have to sign up for (several hundred dollars).

I haven't gotten mine yet. I did get a call today though because of a problem they had finding my test scores, and the lady said that the packet will go out tomorrow (Thursday) so hopefully that's true. Now I don't know if they're sending them out to individuals at different times...or all at once as a group. If they go out as a group, we should have them by the end of the week. I really can't believe how long this is taking.

Someone called me on Wednesday and said that they'd never received my TEAS scores! I sent them on the 2nd, along with my acceptance form. They seemed a little confused because I had the confirmation email and everything. That freaks me out a little, but the good part of it is that at least they called to double-check. So maybe things are even further behind than they should be. Yukyville - you picked up your packet, right? If you did, can you say what the CPR requirement is that we need? I ask because I have an opportunity to take a class on Tuesday, but I want to make sure it's the right class (and since I don't have a packet, I have no idea if it is!). Thanks for your encouragement.

It's a bit of a power trip. I've noticed that the nursing programs at the other schools I applied to are similarly withholding with basic information. I totally understand your frustration. You need to make a pretty big life change if you're in and you'll need as much time as possible to prepare for it. Hang in there! I'd imagine you'll have your packet by Saturday?

I got my email! I filled out the form, sent it back, then had my TEAS score sent to them. I think next we're supposed to receive a packet with info about the background screening and drug test. I read in LMC threads from previous years that the packet was handed out when students went in to take the TEAS. What about those of us who won't be taking it, do you think they'll email it or mail it? Keep me posted if anyone receives their packet.

Yukyville I keep doing the same thing: checking and double-checking that that was really my ID # on the list. I feel really excited and impatient and I just wish they would've sent the email. I don't quite understand why they wait once the list has been published. BUT I was poking around on the school website and it says that the entire school is closed on Fridays. So that means that they haven't been in the office since the acceptance list was put up. That would explain why calls haven't been returned and emails haven't been sent I guess.

Finally Accepted. Not feeling how I expected...
I'm in a similar boat; I thought I was rejected...but turns out I wasn't. I had already mentally abandoned the idea of nursing school (after years of working toward it), so now I find myself doing mental gymnastics and trying to re-wrap my head around the idea that I'll be going. No stress-free summer for me! It will be a summer filled with paperwork and background checks and CPR classes. My stomach is all tied up in knots and I'm constantly anxious. But this was all part of my goal, and I just achieved one milestone (getting accepted), so I'm trying to slow down and just appreciate that. I've had other nursing students give me examples of questions on the NCLEX, and there really is no way to prepare for it this early. That's what nursing school is supposed to be preparing us for, and it will. One step at a time, as they say. I think you'll do great. You're a strong student, and as a previous poster mentioned, your worried ways probably serve you well sometimes. Just remember not to let it take over. Try not to over-think things, and as my friend told me recently, "Don't get in your own way." Put one foot before the other, break big tasks down into smaller ones and check them off one by one. You should do this, you'll do great!
