2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program
From what I can tell you typically get a payment tab on your program portal mid month the month AFTeR you got your award letter, showing the first payment as processing. Then that payment typically clears your bank a few days later, around the 15-17th each month. This is just what I gather from on here and people I know who have gotten it. And no, I believe the October payment will just be for October.

I’m pretty sure the NP that got the counter signature was either NHSC or rural community LRP not the nurse corps LRP. From what I gather the counter signatures in past for the nurse corps are typically about 30 days after. I’m checking like crazy too but not going to think anything of it until after at least 9/7

The applications makes it sound like at least some types of consolidated loans are ok, I think when they are only related to the degree if I remember right. I also got my finalist email for the Nurse Corps LRP today, FNP at FQHC. I didn’t pay too much attention to previous years as I figured might take multiple years but does anyone know how long it typically takes for the counter signature if you are awarded?

I don’t think it matters, going through past years they did on some people but not others and both would get awards or not. I would imagine maybe they pull a second one if your credit isn’t that good? I had some issues financially prior to starting my job so my credit isn’t very good. Maybe that’s why I got the second check to make sure I was still paying them and they hadn’t defaulted?

I work at a FQHC FNP site score of 17 for primary care and 23 for mental health. It would be amazing if they would look at the mental health site score but since I’m Primary care I don’t believe they do. My DTI is about 145%. I had two credit checks and no word since. I don’t think primary care NPs have been awarded yet, at least I don’t know of any.

Now that I slept on it, I’m kind of worried the other way, do people that normally get it only get one check? Maybe there was something wrong on my application and they are just verifying it? I really don’t understand why they would do two checks for the same application as they do them to verify your loans and a second one wouldn’t really tell them anything different...

I actually thought of this while I was filling out my application and called them. They told me that when they review your transcripts and your loans if there are any that are not qualified (not the right type, time, degree, etc) that those loams just won’t be approved. Apparently the contract will state which loans are approved for repayment.

Also, I don’t believe that the confirmation of interest drops you from the chance for the NCLRP, from what I understand as long as you don’t have a service obligation you can still be selected and you won’t have a service obligation until your NHSC contract is countersigned which could still take a while. It is early, but I have heard of people getting selected mid April like this. I’ve asked around and I’d say since you were selected so early there is an extremely high chance you will get it! Congratulations again and here’s to the rest of us still crossing our fingers!

Jaspis1976, congrats! That is a good dilemma to have at least! I, personally, will take the NHSC if I get offered both but my dti isn’t that high, I only owe approximately 130k. I have friends that are NPs with over 200k debt, I know one each in that boat with each repayment. The one that took the NHSC is on their third year (they got the extension immediately after the initial two year). And she had the option for both, she liked the concept of tax free and being able to continue to renew each year. My friend who took the NCLRP said the amount she got was nice, but she apparently didn’t figure the amount out right that she needed to pull out of her check extra as it raised her tax bracket and between that and state taxes she owed a rediculous amount, she didn’t tell me how much, just that you’ll definitely want to talk to a tax person to figure out what to pull out of your check as she doesn’t think you can have them pull out to cover the extra tax on your income, but does think you can have them set aside more for the state taxes on the amount they give. It would be nice to know if anyone else dealt with that end. Mom a side note, do you live in the coty you work? I think that is one of the things they look at for how likely you are to stay, I wish they knew that I plan on moving to the coty I work but it only has a population of 800 with no houses for sale yet lol. Did they pull your credit already? And we’re you from a disadvantaged background? Also, what email did they notice come from so we can make sure to add it, and when you log in to your portal does it say “under review” or something else? I’m paranoid that If I do get selected that I’ll miss my chance! My site score is 17 I believe as well. Keep us informed on what you decide!
