They should explain this all in orientation but what we were told is we take the classes in the summer. I already have all my prereqs done so I'm not sure how it would work for those who don't but I can imagine it doesn't matter. Again, I'm sure they will explain all this to you at orientacion. Hopefully you get campus assignments soon, we didn't get ours til two days before orientation!

Hey there:-) I saw your question so it's 15 skills lab hours per semester or about 1 per week, it's not too bad. Also some exciting news it was announced today officially that starting after you finish your first semester at HCC in nurisng you can start taking USFS BSN classes online!! I know we are very excited as next summer we will be able to knock out a few classes before we graduate.

hey guys just wanted to congratulate you all, I'm happy you all made it in! I love hearing when people get accepted, its very exciting. about the uniform you go to hcc's nursing page under current students and there they have the nursing uniform handbook. our uniform has stayed the same the past few semesters, white scrub top, port wine bottoms, HCC nursing patch sewn on left shoulder, and white shoes. supplies are a penlight, bandage scissors, watch with hands, and most important a stethoscope. I can't stress how important this is espscially your first semester when most of what your doing is physical assessments. you need a good stethoscope to listen to the heart and lung sounds on the manniquins in lab and on your patients in clinical. the littman se 2 classic is a great choice. it will be recommended to you by nurses and staff alike. double lumen stethoscopes are not recommended because it is very hard to hear with them which is not good when you need to pick up subtle sounds like ronchi. they will go through a lot of this at orientation but its good to be prepared beforehand. the book package is about $600 with a coupon you get at orientation and the supplemental books are another $300,some are required some are not. there of are a lot of concepts that are hard to understand so supplemental books are a big help. I think that covers what you need to know right now, hope you all get the campus of your choice, if not you can always switch with someone else that wants to at orientation!

You give them your financial aid award letter and when the school deposits your financial aid refund they withdraw the package money. It's very convenient.

The BSN program has been mentioned at the past few orientations. Its not happening for any of our classes, I doubt it will happen for another few years.

hey again! the red barn near dale mabry has the nursing books availabable NOW if your interested. unlike hcc all you have to do is show your award letter and you instantly have your books. on ly downside is they may have a waiting list since this is a popular and cheaper spot to get the book package. I did it last semester and got the last one available and it was two days after orientation.

hillsborough community college SPRING 2015
hi there, you are 100% correct. Although it is a popular belief, spring cutoff is not lower, the applicants just tend to be less. but there are semesters like the one where I applied that there was a very largegroup of applicants which is why we received ourletters so late, almost in october. 3.7 is almost always theguaranteed accepted gpa cutoff and anything below is that is really dependent on how many apply, how many accept seats, etc. anything below 3.5 is abig gamble and at that point applicants should definitely consider other options.

The CPR class is ok as long as it's from the American Heart Association and it's for healthcare providers.

hillsborough community college SPRING 2015
Hi Leroy, i had a 4.0 going in. Depending on your professor the care plan may count towards homework points, our did others don't. C is 80-84 B is 85-91 A is 91-100. Most points are from tests, only some are from homework.

Hi there:-) there are occassional night lab hours, usually they fall on Tuesday or Thursday. I am in the night/weekend program. I work and have two kids under the age of four, so this was my only choice. There are some who worked full time but they would have to ask off quite often for various reasons, including studying for tests and doing the community service and lab hours. It is possible though, its just depends on how hard your willing to work. Anyway my final is today so I should probably be studying LOL Good luck everyone!

I don't know of any apps, I only know of critical thinking books. There's a lot, I bought most of Mine on amazon. But they are not cheap, some classmates and I spend about $300 each on top of the $600 package we need for class. Not to mention clinical supplies which were another $300.

You can choose when to go to skills lab,its 2 hours per week. Most hours are during the day though so you have to make time in your schedule to go,if you work this can be a problem as they choose when the lab is open. None of my friends are taking other classes. Frankly, it would be VERY hard, especially if you work. There is way too much involved in nursing school to add on another workload. Assignments and care plans easily take 8-10 hours each,I am not exaggeratting. Care plans are 15 pages long as were some of our assignments, and my clinical instructor had us do weekly care plans:-(

hillsborough community college SPRING 2015
Hi there, I saw your question on our old thread but I figured id write you here if anyone else had questions. So tomorrow I am officially done with NP1. Every NP1 class is different due to professors however for the most part, a lot is the same. You have 5 hours of community service per semester, two 3 hour classes per week Monday and Wednesdays, 2 weekly skills lab hours, plus you have 10 hours of clinical weekly. In addition, there are weekly assignments. Finally and most importantly, to pass this class a minimum of 3-4 hours per day is needed for studying. It is not an easy class, it is absolutely nothing like your prereqs. There is no memorization, you must apply your knowledge to the test and answer critical thinking questions of which all the answers are correct, but only one is the MOST correct. This is easier said than done. 90% of my class failed the second exam, only me and two other classmates passed it,and a lot of those were 4.0 students. Thankfully most were able to bring up their grades. However, I reiterate practice critical thinking NOW while your waiting. I suggest Kaplans NCLEX review book, it is very helpful to practice with. I wish you all the best and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014
Hi there:-) I would suggest you take the HCC class because it is the one they prefer. However, you can take any CPR class as long as its for healthcare providers and it is from the American Heart Association. Those are the only classes they accept. I will send you an email in a bit with the other info.

A friend of mine found out RIGHT before orientation. Around the time when students have the deadline to accept or decline their spots. It all depends on how many decline their seats, or if they don't show up for orientation they are automatically out. Orientation is mandatory for both days so if someone does not show more seats will open.

Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014
For us they came a few days before orientation but you guys may get it a week before. If you want to switch assignments they will announce it at orientation and then whoever wants to switch can go to the back with the others and decide who wants what. Just a note also, the professor for n/w for NP1 fall is not correct on webadvisor. The one on webadvisor is the clinical instructor for TGH. She is not for lecture. If anyone wants to know who that professor is they can PM me. I can give you some advice too, you will need it.
