  1. To quote the OP Do people just resent having to pay them back? They're cramping the new lifestyle norm? Can someone explain this to me? Am I being dense? I waded through pages and pages of "well when I went to nursing school...." and "silly young people just sign on the line and take crazy loans", but I didn't see many answers from anyone who is living with high amounts of debt, chiming in to say what they were doing/feeling about the amount of debt they had.
  2. I'd love to hear from some recent grads who are living the situation rather than a lot of speculation about other people's motives and habits. So glad so many of you have escaped the debt trap.
  3. Alicia! woo hoo! Yep, I'm from Buffalo sm17horv. Taking my last 2 finals for my last prerequisites today and looking forward to having a break from school until May. I was just introduced to a guy who is in the program now, and I'm planning on grilling him for details. One of the main things I want to know is how the job prospects are around here and how UB helps nursing students with career advising. I know we have a long way to go before the job hunt starts, but it's important to me considering all the doom and gloom I've heard about the job market not being so great. I was thinking about trying to do some volunteering before the summer semester starts- has anyone had any experience?
  4. Hi all, I just got accepted to the ABSN program starting in the Summer of 2014 and wanted to start a thread to try and meet some classmates. Anybody out there?
  5. I just realized this thread is in "post graduate nursing". I'm going to start a new one under "General Nursing Student"- maybe we'll get more people?
  6. I got in too! Congrats and I can't wait to meet you all :-)
  7. Thanks scanders77- that sounds like what I was anticipating, so that's good! The general summer session for UB starts May 27 but I'm not sure if that applies to the ABSN program.
  8. I'm taking pharm at NCCC, took the rest of my prereqs at ECC. Since I had a full course load at ECC this semester I was able to cross-register for pharm at NCCC at no extra cost! Amazing! My kids will be almost 3 and 5 when (if) I start the program, so I will most likely not be working. Does anyone know what the schedule is going to be like?
  9. Hi everyone- I'm another one waiting on word from UB. It's a good thing I'm finishing up my prerequisites right now so I have something to keep my mind occupied. These last couple of weeks are going to be tense though!
  10. I meant that people writing about culture tend to focus on the other, what they think of as different. They assume that the imagined majority culture is common knowledge and uniform and that it's unnecessary to examine the sociocultural factors that affect health behavior for "them". All of these assumptions are incorrect. I know this post is old but I just saw this again and thought that my response needed clarifications.
  11. I'm waiting until mid-December for Summer 2014 admission, and it's driving me nuts! Congrats to all of you who are accepted. I'll be over here biting my nails for a few more weeks.
  12. What made you choose d'youville? that's a big move! Do you know anyone here?
  13. I just applied to this program as well. University at Buffalo is my first choice because they offer an accelerated BSN. I have friends who are professors at d'youville (not in the Nursing Program), and it is a good school! I don't think it's very difficult to get in but don't quote me on that!
  14. I love the original question and the thread following it! It is very telling that white mainstream culture is excluded from instruction. Thank you for bringing this up.
  15. took a&p 1 and 2, nutrition, and statistics over the summer- got the 4.0! Next challenge- Micro w/lab, pathophysiology, human growth & development, current topics in healthcare. I'm in! Good luck everyone!
