  1. A friend just called me and said her 4 year old has not been eating. She took her to the doctor and found out there has been 20 other cases like this with other children. The doctor said it has been lasting from 7 to 10 days. The child is healthy, not fat or skinny. She has been taking fluids ok, but the parents can't even bribe the kid to eat, they have tried everything. The child is not concerned with how she looks, she doesn't ask if she looks fat. There are no other symptoms, no toothaches, nothing. When they asked her why she wouldn't eat she say's she's just not hungry. The mom says she's sure it's not a phase, because she has had a phase before and they were able to bribe her with toys and McDonalds. Has anyone ever heard of this? thanks
  2. I smoked for 8 years, 2and a half packs a day. I used the smoke away pills that you see on tv, only I got them at walgreens. There is no easy way to get through the cravings you just have to be strong, but the pills helped a little. I also quit going to bars and became designated driver to my friends.
  3. Thank you, this is exactly what I am looking for.
  4. Thank you so much for writing this, it helps to hear this more than you know. Everything I can find on this subject only talks about how people want to kill themselves over the pain, which is scary.
  5. I work 7p-7a and asess my patients with the first med pass, that way I spend more time with them and they don't feel like I am throwing pills at them. If I do not have my asessments done by 12a then I do them when the aids get vitals. I can't just not do my asessments like some nurses, I am to much of a spaz, if I sit down to chart and realize I missed just one thing on a patient I will go and look, even if it is just to make sure they have o2 on.
  6. I have been a nurse for 5 years and have never had any medical problems. I have found out that I may have trigeminal neuralgia. I am going for an MRI and MRA of the head next week. I told the doctor that I do not want to take any meds and lets just go straight to some procedure.( the meds they use are the anti- seizure meds and I refuse to be doped up all the time). He said we would probably do the radiofrequency ablation, but I can not find any information on the actual procedure anywhere. I would have it done at Barnes at St.Louis. There is only one doctor that performs it there and I think his name is Grubbs, but I can't find his name or the procedure anywhere on the Barnes website. Please let me know if you or anyone you know have this diagnosis and if anyone can tell me about this procedure. thanks!
  7. The other night I had a continuous cbi wide open along with my other 8 patients on a medsurg floor. I was in that room every 20 minutes, plus the times when he clotted off. To make matters worse the man was A&Otimes 3 but had a hole in the roof of his mouth so he spoke jibberish, this man would also strain against the catheter it was a horrible night, especially since a few of my other patients were"needy". It was the first time in a while that I broke down and cried when I got home.
  8. I had an obese patient one night and everytime I went into her room she had her hands down south digging around ( and not the back end either). She wasn't confused and the smell was strong. I tried to stay out of reach, but I was to slow one time and she grabbed my forearm while talking to me. The smell was awful and this whole time she is gripping my arm and talking and I can't get away. It was so hard not to just freak out and run! Of course, everyone got a kick out of it and I spent the rest of the shift scrubbing down.
  9. I work on the medsurg floor and we had a confused lady who we had in a geri chair at the nurses station. At one point I walked by and noticed her eating something and she was very preoccupied with what she was doing. When I looked closer she had her dentures in her hand and was taking her finger nail and scraping the white crud off the teeth and eating it! That was the closest I ever came to actually puking at work.
