  1. OK so I know this may sound silly but what exactly do NI’s do? Do you guys teach the EHR system to new hires? Troubleshoot EHR issues that may arise? Do you guys give presentations to upper leaders about changes that are needed to the EHR system? Or do you guys just sit in front of a computer like a desk job? I’m not sure what NI’s do and a lot of the research I’ve come across isn’t straight forward, which is quite annoying to be honest. If anybody can answer these questions it will be much appreciated, thanks.
  2. Thanks for the feedback. The training program where I will be at is going to be 9 months long so yea I’ll pretty much be learning all the roles of the OR
  3. So what would you say will be my biggest worry?
  4. bryan_del posted a topic in Operating Room
So, there’s a high chance I might accept a job in the OR. I have a question, for anyone who can be so kind to explain, what are huddles in the OR? Who’s in charge of them? And what is the role of the nurse in those huddles? Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks for the input. I will look into hospitals that offer that course
  6. Yes I was thinking that. It seems like other areas do have them but over here they are scarce.
  7. Yes I wish I was able to find such a program around here. They all want acute care or OR experience specifically which makes it really tough if you have neither.
  8. Yes I mean within the U.S and which state and city. I live in L.A and all residency programs that are available require acute care experience but for some reason it seems as though they do not take psych.
  9. What are were you able to get into a residency?
  10. I’ve been looking into both. What I’ve found is that even the residency programs out there, which are not much for some reason, demand acute care experience of at least one year or two and as I noted above I only have psych experience so I have not been able to get into any of the residency programs I’ve applied to. Which area did you manage to get into the OR residency and did you have acute care experience?
  11. I’ve been an inpatient psych nurse for the past almost 2 years since I passed my NCLEX. It is the only experience I have. I’ve decided to pursue different paths (even outpatient psych) now and have been considering transitioning to hospice or OR but wow it seems like getting in OR is impossible or something. Did you guys have the same problem getting into OR or is it because they just don’t take psych experience at all?
  12. Thanks for the info. Do you know of any good hospice companies around L.A?
  13. Thanks for the tips.
  14. I see thanks for the info. I’ll do some research on larger hospices around my area. Thanks again
  15. Thanks for the help. Does case management require you to be on call?
  16. Hmmm ok. It’s just hard to find one that has a good reputation for some reason. Do you guys recommend being a visiting nurse, admissions nurse, case manager, or all combined?
  17. Do you know of any good agencies in the Los Angeles area?
  18. How many hours do hospice nurses usually work in one day? I’ve been told that they usually spend a lot more time in a given day since they go and see their set of patients which can range from 30 min to 1hr, they include the time spent in traffic, and they also include the time spent doing paperwork. All of these factors make them actually work more than 8 hours which is what they are being paid for. Is it worth it at the end?
  19. Would you recommend hospice nursing per diem?
  20. I am thinking about doing their RN to MSN program of Leadership. I was wondering if there any people out here who can give advice on their online programs
  21. Nursing is a very serious field. I myself as a student nurse feel like I am not being prepared well enough as an RN. I believe the best way to fix this would be if all nursing schools require at least 6 months of prior nursing experience either as an LVN/LPN or CNA. If not then at least have all new grads require completion of a nursing residency in order to receive their license before applying for work. But we know that won't happen anytime soon due to supply and demand and the "shortage of nursing."
  22. I say go for it. It's better to fail and try, although if you really want it I doubt you will, then not try and regret it
  23. oh ok thank you very much for the info. That clarifies a lot
  24. Hello everyone I just have a quick question that I can not seem to get an answer for. I am nursing student at an ADN program and I want to become a CRNA in the future. I know that I have to get my BSN and then get some acute plus critical care experience. My question is when the time for application comes which GPA do CRNA schools look at? Your ADN GPA, BSN GPA or both?
  25. Being a believer in Christ should help anyone, who truly is one, become a better nurse. Why? because Christ's teachings can be related to nursing very strongly. Love, compassion, patience, kindness, mercy, and joyful are all characteristics that nurses should have which are exactly the teachings that Christ left us. People are so quick to jump and claim that religion does not make one a better person but let me remind you that the person who wrote this post did not say that "religion" makes him/her a better person, the post says that Christ has. Let me also remind everyone that God is not a religion, religion is man-made whereas God is not. The Lord is the creator so it ridicilous to mix religion with The Creator.
