Anybody out there heard of or completed the RN-BSN online program with South University? I have talked to an admissions counselor and have been told no clinicals are required. I would love to hear from someone who might have more info about the program.

I had a walkie-talkie patient that was admitted to the room her family donated to the hospital call me to put a straw that was on her bedside table into her juice. She called me a few minutes later to move her slippers closer to the bed. She told me she had a "girl" at home to do for her. She used the call bell once again to complain that we didn't have enough cable channels. I felt like I was on nursing Candid Camera.

I live in California and I requirements for school/training/hours depends on the local government. The school I am probably going to go to has a component that discusses the business aspect of self-employment. I have never really had to seriously market myself before, so I think that is going to be a big challenge for me. LLLRN

Congratulations on your job! Have you seen the scrubs other staff members were wearing? This could help you with the exact color. Also, when you go to purchase scrubs, ask for help at the store. They should be able to tell you what is considered as Emerald. Hope this helps. LLLRN

That if you choose to work in home health you will be inserting a foley into an elderly woman that weighs about 90lbs, but has the strength of 10 men. The room will be about 100 degrees, you will be sweating like a pig and the only light in the room will be a 25 watt light bulb on the other side of the room. In order to insert the catheter you will be on your knees in the bed with a pen light in your mouth and your elbow will be trying to hold her knees apart...oh yeah and don't forget sterile technique because this is the last catheter you have in your car and you are about 65 miles from your office. Also, when you go to admit your patient for service, again about 65-70 miles from the office, the patient will be dead when you get there. Unfortunately, the family will not realize that grandma is not just sleeping and so when you let them know that she has expired the will all become so hysterical that the pregnant niece will start having contractions and need an ambulance. There will not be a current DNR order and you will need to carry your own phone because the family will have a phone that does not dial out long distance and you will be in the middle of nowhere. And last but not least, a bad day in home health will include running over a chicken.

I am a RN with 15 years of experience. I am seriously investigating going back to school to become a massage therapist. One of the schools I have visited assured me that I could have a successful practice as an independent contractor. Is this realistic or a sales tactic to get me to enroll? I would love any advice, especially from a nurse MT. Thanks, LLLRN
