Driving 1.5 hrs (one way) to work. Good idea?
I have (2) well paying jobs that I was 1.5 hrs. away from. I started by renting a room then I stayed at one of those extend a stay places. I did this for 8-10 years until it got real old ! Keep in mind the pay is to be great, you must have a good car and milage piles up. I put on 72,000 miles in 2yrs. on a brand new Rav 4 as I live in New York State. Just my experience. You can always find close side hussles if this isn't a solution.

Excelsior practice test
Thanks for the EC geri info. I'm taking the test on Sat. and there's lots to study. I have just completed my BSN Phoenix U. and this is my last credit. I'll let you all know how it goes. I took 2 Dantes and found them better to study for than this one.

online bsn
I have been at the University of Phoenix online BSN progam for almost 18mos and will be done. I believe online is a lot more time consuming yet you can go to class in your PJs.Lots of papers and you do get to meet your classmates. If you don't have a good advisor your in trouble I'm fourtuante to have had one. I've done some outside testing to get credits to save money (Dantes, CLEP)to finish some of my humanties. Down side very expensive $1380.00 per class, I'll definitely look at going to a university for my Masters I miss the interaction and personal relationships I had in my ADN program.

Overtime and call time in PACU
Sounds like your manager needs to wake up and smell the coffee. As a PACU manager I donot allow my nurses to work more than 16hrs. However I worked in Las Vegas where no really cared. I worked 23 hrs. once. Your schedule needs to be closely watched as well as changing your staffing plan. There's not much for you to do but to express that more than 16hrs. is unsafe staffing. You can't leave !

Ever quit night shift b/c you couldn't "deal"?
What hospital's don't realize is that nights isnot for everyone. Sure in the old days you got the best experience and some awsome cases but I quit nights three years ago after returning to an area that had no day jobs and had to eat. I realized after 4 months I felt worse than death and it didn't go over well. I ended up quiting, hospital's don't care @!I've been doing acute care over 25yrs. and it will never change. Look out for your best mental heath because they won't.

PACU certification
Help anyone out there who's taken the CPAN EXAM. I'm currenty studying and have been a critical-care and PACU nurse for 25yrs. I've read almost the entire book from ASPAN and have tried to contact a a "coach"with no success. My hospital is currently working on the Magnet cert. and I'm the first one in my dept. to go for the cert. The exam in April 17th. I've been studying since Jan. I even purchase the study test questions but just want to talk to someone who has actually taken the exam.
