The hospital I work for paid to have a Kaplan program in house as an incentive to get graduate nurses to start in June or July instead of after they pass the NCLEX in August or September. The course was just ok. We had a great instructor, but she always seemed to be in a rush and never followed through. The best thing about the course was the Kaplan Course Book and Question Trainer CD-Rom that came with it. I took the NCLEX 2 days ago and approximately 50-60% of the content covered in the practice test showed up on my test!!! Even some of the questions we almost identical. Another good reason to study Kaplan -- their questions were alot harder than the NCLEX. I passed, but thought I had failed because the questions seemed way too easy. I feel if you can get through practice tests 5-7 on the CD-Rom with a 60% or above there is no way you can fail the NCLEX. I used the online site several times -- access is free with the purchase of the course -- and found it to be useful as well. It has a feature that allows you to choose what type of questions to put on practice tests and even has a 30 question test on just priority questions. Give it a shot!! GOOD LUCK

I know exactly how you are feeling. I also took the NCLEX today and the computer cut off at 75. I'm nervous, so hopefully the next 39 hours (and counting) won't be too bad. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

Thanks Jen, you're right. I projected my nervousness onto the proctor and her "lack of a reaction" to me. She could have said "Congratulations you passed" and I probably wouldn't have believed her. The only thing I'm sure of right now is that it is going to be a looooong 48 hours waiting for my results.

I'm in Rochester, NY and I took the NCLEX today. I prayed that the computer would shut off at 75, but when it did I thought I'd have a nervous breakdown!!! I used Kaplan to study and found the practice questions to be more difficult than those on the test. Although there were none of the exact same questions that were on any of practice test I did, much of the content was the same. I'm going CRAZY because I found that the test was not as difficult as I thought it would be, so I'm scared I didn't pass it!!! Do you guys think that the proctors monitoring the test know how you did immediately after the test is over or is everything computerized and they don't have access to the information? The reason I ask is a few of my friends who have taken the test and passed this summer, were told something along the lines of "Don't worry, everything will be fine", by the proctor. Let me know what you think or what your experiences have been. My proctor just said "Good Luck to you", which made me nervous. I'm sure part of this was me just being nervous

I am a nursing student who will be graduating in May. Last June I was accepted for a summer Nursing Internship in the OR. When the program ended in August, I liked the experience so much I decided to work part time as a Scrub Tech while I finished school. The nurse leader who does scheduling, nurse manager, nurse recruiter, and several others have gone out of their way to accomodate me while I have been in school. While I never promised to work in the OR or for the hospital upon graduation, I know all of this was done for me because they were hoping I would. It is no secret to anyone that I planned on going into Forensic Nursing -- I have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice -- but initially I planned on getting to this career via the OR. However, after working several per diem shifts in the ED and talking to some Forensic Nurses, I've come to the conclusion that ED nursing is the best way for me to acquire the skills I'll need to go into forensics. The hospital I work at now is very small so I have decided to take a position with a larger hospital in the area. I feel guilty!!! How do I tell the nurse manager that I've decided to leave without him feeling like I don't appreciate all that he has done for me? Just the other day he mentioned all of the time the department had invested in me, which made me feel horrible knowing that I was considering leaving. Now that I've made my final decision I just don't want these people to think that I'm ungrateful for all of their help.
