Stethoscopes&Scrubs

my school gave us cheap **extremely cheap** stethoscopes. After I completed term 2 one of my harder terms with med-Surg and pharm my hubby bought me a Littman classic 2 and I love it! I can count both respirations and apical at the same time!

Being a great nurse should be your goal, and in order to become that a nurse needs to understand all aspects of nursing! Your comment of... "I feel in geriatrics these people don't get better they are there to die...and hospice...well you know those people are dying. I'm the type of person that needs to see results in the things I do. I want to see people get better. " proves that although you think you know geriatrics you are mistaken. The goal for hospice is to provide comfort and care through out the dying process, and this is no light task.. How would you feel if your loved one was in hospice care and the nurse acted the way you are coming off? LTC is a residents home.. although there are some that's less then grand, the nurses and aide's there bond with the residents and become family.. True Nursing at its finest, yes it is less then exciting but seeing the smile on the residents face when you say "good morning" to them is worth it! Do you realize that many of these elderly people have spent there lives providing care for their family and many have held respectable jobs (unlike most of society today) to be taken out of their homes and left at a retirement community, where very few ever get visitors. To me working in the hospital isn't all that its chalked up to be, there is no real connection and bedside care has gone out the window. Pt's lose there identity and become a number, (much like in a prison..) and now they are being pushed out of the hospitals before they are actually healed..

I felt the same way when I started, and to top it off I started failing 3 classes! I think that's the weaning out phase. Just study hard and don't give up, you'll get through this! Its all about finding your routine.. once I finally found mine and was getting comfortable, the term was over and I have to start over again! :) Happy NURSING

I would have to agree with the others. A support system is a MUST! I have 4 daughter's ages 10, 6,4,10mos. My baby was 8 mos old when I started, and it has been struggle. But I have to remind myself and my family that I am doing this because it has always been my dream and to provide a better life for us. My poor husband has had to take on a major role change and do the job of both mom and dad, he's been truly amazing! One word of advice would be to take time out for them, because it will absolutely wear you down, if you don't! Finding time is the hardest part, and when you do try not to feel guilty about the time your spending with your family or even studying! I spend the weekends with my family as much as I can, but in order to do that I wake up early in the morning and study before the kids wake up that way when they are awake I can spend the rest of the day with them. I also pick a day out of the week to do ALL my homework! that way I can study and read my chapters the rest of the week without worrying about getting my homework done.. Good luck!

Mother of FOUR daughters PN Diploma Hondros Nursing April 8th 2013 11 Months Grad. 3/20/14 Nursing school is tough.. I miss my friends and family.. eventually I'll be able to crawl out of this dark hole and see civilization :)

I am currently attending Hondros in West Chester, in the PN program. I read all the reviews and was almost scared away from Hondros because of all the negative reviews I have read on this site. But I'm thankful that I didn't listen! YES Hondros is fast paced, YES you will need to study your but off, YES there is always going to be something wrong with everything! (The world is not all about you, so nothing will be structured just for you! you'll have to adjust!) With that being said, I really enjoy hondros as much as you can enjoy nursing school! NURSING SCHOOL IS NO JOKE, it is seriously stressful, I hardly spend time with my family and I spend NO TIME with my friends. But it only last a short while. to help make the decision on whether or not to attend Hondros make a pros and cons list but please don't go by whatever these reviews say!! yes hondros is more expensive then a community college but not needing prerequisite's make up for it! There is NO waiting list! they have courses offered in Jan, July, and Oct. For the most part the Instructors are AMAZING! And as for not being able to get a job in the hospital as a hondros RN grad, my clinical instructor who graduated from the RN and BSN program works on a mobile cardiac intensive care unit. The instructors all work at Cincy hospitals as well, So I'm not sure why people think that they wont get a job in hospitals in which the instructors actually work for!! Either way YOU will have to make that decision on your own :)

I wouldn't know from a nursing standpoint because I've only ever been an aide, I'll be starting my lpn course April 8th.. But during my time as a direct care aide to individual's whom are physically and mentally disabled, everything is considered a restsarint now, even adaptive equipment, such as splints and wedges with straps. Its really a catch 22 because yes restraining someone may not be the best idea but also, we cannot be everywhere all the time to ensure safety.. As far as not calling people by there first and last name, it's a major hippa violation because of privacy, but you can use last initial, such as Adam B. I am constantly fighting over the last issue of need to know health concern's and always told to treat everyone with preventive measures.. But regardless as a nurse and caregiver I still have a family and I want to ensure that I am extra careful to not bring home ANY disease.. I signed up to treat and care for ALL people but I still have rights too..

I didn't take the TEAS but I took the HESI, and I worked myself up for nothing, I rushed threw it within 30 minutes (the clock was set to the wrong time and I thought I only had 30min. left to test, wasn't exactly the most relaxing time that's for sure) and I passed it with flying colors.. Just brush up on basic math a lot of fractions!!! I know its easier said then done but don't stress out!! I prayed on my way there (which isn't unusual lol) I actually forgot to put the car in park, and when I went to pay I just handed the lady all of my money because I couldn't count it and was shaking so much.. but once I sat down, by the grace of God I was suddenly really calm!
