Kennesaw State Fall 2013 Applicants
I am sooo glad we didn't have to wait until July or August to hear. I think I would have died before then. I'm assuming you will be in orientation with me on Aug 12th. I can't wait to meet you in person!

Kennesaw State Fall 2013 Applicants
In case anyone else has that problem - I ended up having to look for LaurenCedor on FB and found the group on her page. I have no idea why it wouldn't show in a search... I feel a little behind since I was accepted later - does anyone have a heads-up on CPR class schedules?

getting sick from microbiology
While I agree with everyone that you won't get sick in your micro class, I think you may need to reconsider this as a vocation. I currently work in a Micro lab handling BSL 2 organisms - this is as safe as you will find in this industry. My observation has been that new hires typically spend the first 1 - 2 years constantly getting sick. It's nothing bad, but the positive pressure requirements tend to dry out the mucous membranes and they fall ill until they've caught pretty much everything. (I did catch MRSA my first month - but I have no idea where it came from.) Since you seem squeamish about illness, I suggest you really think it over.

Student Body Odor
I would like to point out that some boys just stink! I have a perfectly healthy nephew who produces an astonishingly bad odor. No rural / farm influence involved. An hour after he showers you will hesitate to hug him. Poor guy. I'm not sure there's a deodorant in this world that can help him.

If you are an advocate for natural birth/homebirth with CNM
Lamazeteacher may work in an area where those choices are readily available and presented to expectant mothers. That is not the case everywhere. In my state CNMs don't attend homebirths and lay midwives do not have the ability to get a license. When I was expecting my first child my OB recommended I use a CNM she had just hired. This midwife was to be the first CNM to practice in my city. Things were great until the big day, when we were informed that the hospital would not let her attend due to pressure from the OB/GYN community. As luck would have it, my OB was in another delivery and I was stuck with an OB who was adamantly against allowing CNMs into the hospital. It was terrible on a level you would not believe. The nurses just seemed stunned by the whole ordeal. Could the OP have made a difference in my situation? I don't know. It's not like the nurses approved of the actions of the OB in question. I just think I wouldn't have felt quite so alone, and that would have meant a lot to me.

Kennesaw State Fall 2013 Applicants
Creigel - I didn't feel comfortable commenting before, since I'm clearly hoping to land a spot, somehow. Now that you made a decision I thought I would tell you that I got my original BS at CSU back when I lived on the south side of town. They have great faculty and a beautiful campus. I'm sure you'll love it. Good luck!

Paula - I think your mailman is a sadist. :) I'm glad you finally got your letter. I feel your pain on this one. I keep telling myself that 'Maybe' is waaay better than an outright 'No'. Congratulations everyone!

Standby. The waiting just Does. Not. End! If I get in, I'll probably be as crazy pants as my cat pic. Paula - you could also be on standby. I didn't get any emails. If anyone on here chooses the Accelerated program at GSU instead, I'd really, really appreciate it. :)

The first time I read this I laughed. Now I'm starting to think it's true.

doctor's office accessing of scripts
I am not a nurse yet, so I can only comment as a US citizen. There is nothing wrong with a doctor having access to a complete medical history. There is also nothing wrong with allowing a competent adult to make the decision regarding the release of that information. Do you want the ED to have access to all records in an emergency? I don't think many people would object to that. A specific law can be written to get it done. Concerned that Doc's will get sued when patients refuse access to that information? A specific law can be put in place to cover that, too. Why should we default to a system that takes rights away from competent citizens? And yes, I know drug seeking is a huge issue. I have a family member who has done so. She lived in a small community and word got around, HIPAA be damned. When she couldn't get a doc to prescribe anymore she just switched to street drugs and is no better off. Really she's worse off. The government is not big enough to fix everybody and everything. It is big enough to make us all miserable if we don't watch it carefully.

I'm really struggling here with a tough decision, please help!
Is it possible to take an incomplete? I did that once when I had a health problem that I couldn't catch-up from. This was not nursing school, mind you, but if you had proper documentation you could petition to complete the course the next semester. I would want to check on that before making a decision.

One step closer...
I agree. Khan Academy will be great for your kids, too. It has everything from elementary grade level math to college coursework, videos of the concepts, and interactive practice questions until you master the skill. I highly recommend it!

What am I doing wrong! I just want to cry
I know how tough it can be. Put in the work to understand the material. All the note cards in the world can't help you if you don't understand what you're studying. If you run out of time to make the flashcards, sometimes you get lucky and find that someone else made a good set on quizlet.com . If their study aids are set to "public" you can piggyback on those to learn the material. (If you understand the material you'll be able to spot the best flashcards pretty easily.) For the diagrams I cover the labels with small post-it strips and make a copy. Slip that into a plastic sheet protector and you can practice labeling over and over with a wet erase marker. Lack of sleep will sink you. Get some rest and start fresh - you can turn this around.

Kennesaw State Fall 2013 Applicants
I did apply to the accelerated program. I guess they want us to be thinking about the possibility of lightening the load a bit for Fall Semester. If we get accepted we can register for that one during drop/add.
