  1. I just want to say it is possible to be a new grad in the PICU. I am a new grad and was hired as such. My advice is look for new grad residency programs it helps , also you should do the capstone in the PICU if that's where you want to be, this way you can really see what it's like. Some days are great and others not so much. It's all about you and what you can handle. Good luck let me know if I can help.
  2. **Sorry about the miss spelling lol looks like auto correct added es on express and process. :)
  3. Hello, I just went through the same thing and landed a job with CHOA. I too only wanted peds so I understand your drive. Although I have my BSN I know they hire ADN as well. Here is the layout for a new grad. 1st you have to apply as a new grad in march and October.(the march one may still be up) 2nd is a phone interview lots of questions!! 3rd if they like you a manager interview to the area you expresses interest 4th some departments/units want you to shadow 5th is a prep test NCLEX for peds After all that then hopefully a job offer. It is a long processes but it is worth every bite of it!! Areas around the hospitals seem to be nice. What hospital do you want to work at for CHOA ? I too have to do the big move and I decided to move close to the hospital I don't want a big commute to and from work with long hours and have my kids far from me. Hope this helps :)
  4. Welcome yes there are a couple of us out of Towner's on here, I am in Georgia :) good luck to you. As most of us on here I am praying for the phone call/ interview. I still have to graduate and take the NCLEX, so I have been drilling myself to the bone trying to get it all done. I heard very good things about KAPLAN thanks for the tip. :)
  5. I am so excited for you!!! You will have to keep me posted on the interview wow nice... And you have a masters already that's great. Me this is my first degree lol took me forever because I had to work and go to school. Long road but its almost here now I am at Shorter University it's a great school they are an old school but just started a nursing program. I will be the second graduating class for nursing. Bulgaria was amazing but a lot of work. We had classes we had to take plus clinical time. Once in a life time trip for sure and I am so glad I got to go. Wow I am really excited for you. When is your interview? Is it pediatrics ? And are they still taking applications lol ? Lots of questions haha at this point I am will to move anywhere:) maybe not anywhere I need the sunshine
  6. Lol Mine was two years with the summer :) we had to go on a medical missions trip to Bulgaria. It was very nice and heart braking I spent the summer in a Bulgarian orphanage. Learned so much there. I graduate in May :) can't wait. Unless you go through nursing school you have no ideal what its like lol I try and tell my family and friends but that don't understand how hard it is. Can't wait for my social life to get back on track haha. Looking forward to some all year sunshine fingers crossed for CHLA...
  7. @ocennia Sorry your not feeling well I hope you feel better real soon. You're not alone in the hard decision area!!! Follow your heart if you take Duke and want to move back at some point you will have experience and then it will be much easier to get a job anywhere. If CHLA calls then you can move with a job already lined up. From what I have been reading its not easy for new grads to find a job like it used to be. That being said I have had to breath and say to myself "it's not up to me" I will go where the wind blows and have faith that am making the right decisions. You will make the right decision and you can always move anywhere after you have experience!! Sky's the limit for RN's with experience. Good luck keep me posted:)
  8. My week is going!! Finishing up with all the school stuff its kind of scary to tell the truth!! I can't wait to hear from CHLA and I am praying we all get that call/ interview:) hoping I can start plans on my next journey in life. Best wishes to all!!
  9. Good luck to everyone !! Now the waiting and nail biting starts. Fingers and toes crossed lol...:)
  10. @babyrn88 It's the best feeling in the world to be a mom!! I have two boys and they grow so quick. Enjoy the time with your little man. Glad you are liking LA. Can't wait to move to the big city again lol.. I am in small town and miss all the big city stuff!! I hope that we all get our dream job at CHLA. It would be nice to meet everyone that's posted on here. :)
  11. Thank you for sharing. I was wondering if you could give us some background info. Like what kind of questions they ask ? What was your first choice ? And what do you think they are looking for ? Any info would help. Also did you know right away you didn't make it in or did it take awhile to hear back ? I really want this job and am trying to plan as best I can. I will be traveling far if I get the interview. Do you know if they do the 2nd interview right after the first one. Some people posted they had to fly in 2-3 times and still didn't get the job. Thanks again :)
  12. Thank you for the update :) did she say how many people applied ? Or how many they planed on taking this year ? Again thank you for letting us know and good luck :)
