Second Entry Programs With Winter or Spring Start Dates
A few of the programs in BC have January intakes, not sure about other provinces... Check out BCIT, Langara, Kwantlen and University of the Fraser Valley. They all have different admission requirements though. What would you be applying with? Have you taken any pre-requisite courses?

shellbar I sent you the link :) Yeah I'm also wondering about the older editions... I guess it would really depend on the instructor. But from what I've heard from someone in the program, many people use one edition back without problems. I only bought one book so far, the 1st Canadian edition of the Physical Examination book because that's what's listed in the pre-reading list (even though it says 2nd edition on the booklist!?) and omg sooo much pre-reading lol....

Myaconnor, I PM'ed you the link :) I think I'll probably just get most of the books used because they're so expensive!

You can do the WHMIS test online, it's really easy! There's a link and instructions in one of the documents when you login to "Desire2Learn" I only signed up for the CPR HCP, I don't think you need the First Aid one

kath22 I'm not sure how many spots are left, but there must be people who have received offers from more than one school or have decided to decline their offer for other reasons. The commitment fee is due on June 5th so there will probably be more spots available after that date too! I took one LIBS course last semester and am currently taking the second one. I think they put more emphasis on how many post-secondary courses you've taken and things like volunteer work :) If anyone is looking for scrubs, check out Walmart's website, they have a bunch of them on mega clearance. I got 3 pants and 3 tops for under $20 total and free shipping! I haven't received them yet so not sure what the quality is like, but they seem to have decent reviews on the website. Can always return them if they're horrible but for $3 a piece you can't go wrong Regular price is $16 each

Thompson Rivers A&P online
I wouldn't say that it's impossible to get an A through the online course, however I would say that it's more difficult. It's hard to learn something like anatomy only by reading the textbook. I took only BIOL 1593 online, and I did ok but didn't get an A. I decided to take the second half of A&P in person and got an A+. I found it way easier, not because the content was easier (in fact I would say that it was much more in depth) but because I just learn better in a classroom. When I think back about the questions that were on the final exam for BIOL 1593 I think "Wow those were easy, how did I get that wrong?" After taking the course in class and having the labs, it just stuck with me more. So really it depends on your learning style. If you're good at memorizing things and have taken science classes online before, I'm sure you'll do fine. I don't mind taking some courses online but for this one, the learning style just wasn't for me.

I can't believe your transcript got lost in the mail! Yeah I'd go pick it up too just to be sure... Yes I'm taking LIBS 7001 right now. I just got the book a few days ago so I haven't done anything yet, I should get going! Have you started? Myaconnor, I took 7002 before 7001 so it shouldn't be a problem :) I took some similar classes on critical thinking and writing, and academic writing and they didn't accept them. It's worth asking them though, they might recognise it. Which course did you take?

Hi Cesh! Yes I just uploaded my final transript last week. Is there any way you can check how long the wait is for your transcript? 2 weeks seems like a long time! It may be worth it to get the rush transcript like Myaconnor said if your school is backed up with transcript requests. I had previously sent them my grades unofficially but my application status didn't change until they received the final transcript.

BCIT August 2014 Applicants
Well at least my application has finally changed from "insufficient" to "pending department review" I guess that's a step in the right direction lol Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer!!

Thanks for the update Cesh, that makes me feel like a whole lot more optimistic! I've been trying to prepare for the questionnaire the last few days, I'm just about to start it :S

Congrats Stephara and everyone who got short-listed! I just got the short-list email, I'm still waiting for my final grades so I wasn't expecting it yet! Also curious about how many seats they have left...

Cesh, yes I did use the book quite a bit, I'm surprised they marked it as optional! Every week we had to read a chapter or 2, then we had to answer some questions relating to the readings. Maybe if the course is taken in person the topics would be covered in class so you might not need it? For the online version of the course, there isn't much content posted online, it's all in the book. Maybe it depends on the instructor?? Do you know who yours is yet?

Thanks Cesh, I'll just email my marks and then send the transcript when it comes. Good luck on your final!!
-
BCIT August 2014 Applicants
Inguyen, do you know how your friend sent the grade in without the transcript? Did she just email BCIT her grade? That would be great because I'm sure it'll be a couple more weeks before I get the transcript!

xmichelle, I think that last year they sent out offers mid-May, so only a few more weeks to go :) Being shortlisted doesn't guarantee a spot, I believe they shortlist many more applicants than there are seats available... They emailed me back last week saying to send my final marks as soon as I get them and they will make a decision about my application at that time. My final exam is Thursday, then it'll take about a week to get my marks, then I have to order a transcript... I feel like I'm cutting it close, hopefully the seats won't all be taken by then!

I received that email too! Hopefully that means they'll take another look at our applications :)

tyoon, no they aren't requirements to enter the program but they need to be completed before you graduate. You'd either need to take them during your first summer or schedule them on top of an already full course load. I figured I'd just go ahead and take the classes right now because I'm sure that I'll have enough on my plate if I am accepted into the program! Plus the advisor told me that it's a good bonus on your application if you have already taken those courses :-)

xmichelle, honestly it probably would have been way more interesting to take this class in person. The book is pretty boring and I tend to understand things better when they're explained to me rather than just reading it! Yeah I'm taking 7001 online too. I'm finishing up my degree at UVic so I have to stay here this summer :-P Cesh, I bought the book from someone on Craigslist for $60, I would recommend doing that because the bookstore charges about $120!! I haven't gotten the writing book yet though cause I'm stuck on the island lol diandroid, I was scared about the workload for 7002 too but it's not bad. Hopefully 7001 will be similar! Yes the health ethics class would probably be way more relevant. I didn't know we could take that class, I thought it was only for current nursing students. Looks like there's a lot of us taking the LIBS courses this summer, that'll be nice if we need any help! :-)

Don't lose hope! I think a lot of people are in the same boat and applied with midterm grades so you never know! :) Yeah I'm taking it online, it's nice not to actually have to go to class. If you've ever taken a philisophy/ethics/critical thinking course, it'll be easy. Most weeks we are given some type of scenario and we have to comment whether or not it is morally right or wrong and why according to that week's readings. It's only about 200-300 word paragraph to submit every week. It's the easiest class I have this semester so I'm not complaining

xmichelle, I'm finishing up LIBS 7002 right now and I just registered for 7001 for the summer, let me know if you have any questions :) Cesh, I just got the "insufficient" letter today too... It recognized that I was taking A&P this semester and my midterm marks, and said to send in the missing requirements by the application deadline... Not really sure what to do, can't do much until I have my final grades!
