Hello Everyone! I am currently here at ODS and on my liberty weekend after completing week 2. Let me tell everyone, this place is cold, dusty, and loud. The walls are paper thin, so your sleep schedule will be off for a good bit. As a prior enlisted individual this is nothing compared to boot camp. More so, there a lot of classes to attend that will teach you the leadership skills to be an effective officer. My schedule is as such: Monday through Friday we wake up around 4 a.m. go attend physical training until 5-530, eat breakfast after hygiene, go to class until lunch, eat lunch, go to class until dinner, eat dinner, maybe do some marching drills in between, go to bed around 9 p.m. Rinse and repeat. That is literally it. Tempers do flare because you have about 100 individuals from all different backgrounds, but for the most part everyone here is very cordial. Hope people have heard back from their recruiters and will be coming to ODS soon! Good luck to everyone!

Hi Chelle, Sorry, it has been a while since I have checked this. I dealt with the entire process and waited for over a year. I started the packet after graduation from school in the summer of 2015. Problem for me was that the board did not convene until October. The way boards work are when they have enough packets to review then they will hold a board. I am sure they will also hold a special board if they are not meeting their required recruiting goals but it will dependent on how many packets they receive. Keep plugging away at those hours and definitely get your CCRN before you go if you are selected. It can make a huge difference in the amount of bonus money. Best of luck to you!

Hang in there SBSN. I graduated May 2015 and went straight into the ICU. The day I passed my NCLEX was the day I called my recruiter. Overall, the process took over a year. My package was sent to the board in July 2016, they had a board in October which is FY 17. This was the board where I was selected. Credentialing process was pretty easy and did not take long at all. The hardest part was gathering up all of the references and making sure everyone responds back to them to verify you are who you say you are. The Navy is so selective that they could probably hold boards once a year (October) and be satisfied. Not saying this is the case but I was a recruiter for my last 3 years from 2008-2011 and I know the process. With that being said, make sure you check on them every week. Even if it's just to say "hey, checking in and seeing how things are going?" If you don't put forth the effort and show the drive then why would a recruiter want to give you the time of day when they have plenty of other qualified applicants who want a spot? It's your future, not theirs. Food for thought and good luck!

Hey Disc! Glad to hear you are going through the long exhausting process, it will be worth it and I hope you make the cut. I was credentialed and coded for critical care. I do not know the med sure goal for this FY. Back in July when my package was submitted to the board they were only at 15% of their goal for the year on critical care. However, as I am sure you are aware, they wait for a bunch of the packages to go to board before making any selections. Also, there are not many spots across the board for all specialties. That being said they can be very selective. Not sure what all of your credentials are but I would recommend getting as many certifications as possible. I had 10 years of prior service which I feel helped my selection but also I do many collaterals within my organization. Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!

I have finally been selected for ODS FY 2017!!! Any other RN's out there heard any good news lately?

CL1786, I myself was kind of in your position. I served almost 10 years navy and had many volunteer hours with the red cross but none of it medical. Also, I have no experience in the medical community, other than my wife being an occupational therapist and me getting to listen to her stories. I was accepted early and I do believe that prior service and those volunteer hours do equate to something. So my advice is to hang in there and hopefully you will see something soon. ***Edit*** It would help if I had read the complete thread... Congrats on getting in and I look forward to seeing you this fall.

Everything will transfer over automatically. It is a new entity within an old identity, they just merged two systems into one and both pretty much followed one another to begin with. You will be good to go, but if you have any questions contact the admissions office.

Congrats to all!! I will see my Augusta future nurses soon and can't wait. Don't forget to take the CPR class after the month of May that way you will stay certified through the duration of nursing school. Also make sure it is from American Heart Association only.

I am the one who made the comment to attend the webinar. Just tried to help many of you whom had questions ; and no, I am not from the admissions or faculty at GRU. I am a hopeful nursing student waiting anxiously for a letter as well. Good Luck to all and hope to see you in the near future!
