  1. We use pasteurized as well
  2. We have a luggage style on the baby and the issolette it's facing out so we can have easy access. It's right next to the blood bank ID.

My hospital also pays more since it is an ICU.
  4. Not to be a downer, but hopping to a new unit will not necessarily make you happy. I LOVE the NICU, not always the people I work with, but I truly love the NICU. That being said nursing of all kinds is hard work and that's no matter where you go.
  5. My husband was accepted earlier this month for May 2014.Best of luck to you!

HyperSaurus, RN, Thats anyone new to the Level3 Nicu.
  7. I have been a med-surg nurse for almost two years while also working part-time in a busy ER. I will be transitioning to a full time NICU position in Dec and will try to update you on what the transition is like. I do feel however you should go wherever your heart tells you.

I start Dec6th, its a month of shadow then a month of NICU simulation school then back the floor for hands on orientation
  9. As I will soon be starting my orientation I know that our program is 6-8 months if the RN is new to service and varies as you deem yourself comfortable. I am surprised your orientation is so short especially with changing preceptors.

WOW jppeters84, thank you for all of that information. As stated previously I will be starting new to service in the NICU(I have gyn/gi surgical and ER background). I have been scrolling this forum for information as I am so excited to start. I found the description/summation you gave to be one of the best! So thank you for taking the time to no only write it, but to also get me even more excited for this new adventure.
  11. Yeah there are similar offerings at my hospital that's why I was confused on why the original poster was looking to obtain another degree without reaching the full potential of their current degree.
  12. Please correct me if I am wrong, isn't a CNL a clinical nurse leader, which is acceptable for most leadership and management positions?
  13. Wow this is kind of scary, I hope they were able to get some help.

It's so interesting reading your post...I have been an RN for a year and a half, but always wanted to be in the NICU. When I graduated the opportunity just wasn't there and as of recent I applied and was offered a position with two different hospitals. I was so nervous going into each interview, but gave it my all. They must have seen some kind of potential in me and I in the end I was offered both positions. I accepted the closer/larger level III with a huge children's hospital and am so excited for my new journey. I wish you best of luck with yours and hope that more experienced RN's in the NICU with respond.
