I am an OCCC student who has recently applied for the nursing program starting this fall. I highly recommend taking the summer course, as having 15 points will most likely not get you into the program. 17 gives you a much better chance. I am not 100% sure, however I am almost certain that you cannot start with day classes (Fall) for one semester, and then switch to evening classes. This is something I would check with the nursing school advisor on. I don't know if you have very many options for the microbiology professor, however I am currently in microbiology, and the professor whose last name rhymes with Reading, is fantastic. I would highly recommend her. Hope any of that helps!

MRS. PEREZ. I just heard that on the 1+1, you also need to get at least a 70% on your TEAS test. (Not just the 62% needed to get points into the OCCC nursing program) So, if you are thinking about this route, make sure your TEAS score is at least a 70%. Also- and I may be wrong- I'm pretty sure you have to apply to OCCC nursing program and be OFFRED the 1+1. It isn't something you can decide to start all on your own. Hoe this new info helps! Anyone else out there just dying with anticipation? -Realizing that it hasn't even been a full week since the deadline!! I've never been good at waiting- but this suspense is killing me!!!

Congratulations ladies, on your acceptance! I too, have applied for a Community College RN program for Fall 2013-I won't find out if I'm in for a few more weeks, but I understand the hard work needed to get here! Best of luck to you on your future endeavor! Congrats, again!!

MRS.PEREZ- if you want extra info on the nursing program, I would talk to the nursing program advisor (can't really post names on here, but her initials are C.E.-and u can find her in the health services pavilion) she is a great resource as to what you need to do (classes to take, and extra things you can do to gain points-if you do decide to go into OCCC's program) Good luck! And just keep working at it! It may take a while, but the end result is SO worth it!

I don't know about any other schools, but OCCC's wait list is semester specific. For instance-if you apply for fall semester, and don't get in you are then put on a wait list (alternate list). Last year I've heard around 20 people that were not originally admitted (who were put on the alternate list) got in, because a lot of times people apply to several schools, and although they were accepted at OCCC, they maybe choose another. Those not admitted (either originally, or off of the alternate list) need to apply again for a different semester. It is not a wait list in the sense that those not selected this semester will be put on a list to be called next semester...etc. if that makes sense. It is a very (you either got in this semester -as an original or alternate member-or you need to reapply) sort of thing. Either way-the LPN degree takes a year, and ten the RN program takes a year. 2 years either way. You just have to find which path is right for you.

From what I've heard, the 1+1 program is only offered to a select few who apply to OCCC nursing program and are wait listed. They do one year (essentially getting their LPN) and one of the tech schools in the area, then come back to OCCC for their second year, to finish up their RN. If you wanted to do an LPN-RN, you could go on your own to get your LPN, then apply at OCCC for their career ladder program. Either way, you have to complete all pre-reqs.

I applied with 18 points and a 3.29 GPA. I'm hoping that's more than enough. I think somewhere around 20 alternates made it in last fall. I think fall is a big one for people applying to multiple programs, which means not everyone who is accepted, takes their slot.

I am submitting my application this week for the Fall 2013 start in the traditional pathway. I'm guessing you are as well??

@brit57 - I too have taken a CNA course. I have my state exam scheduled for the 27th (they were WAY booked up!) A friend of mine talked to the guy in charge of admissions for the nursing program, and he said that as long as you have passed your state exam, he can look you up in the system to prove you have your license. So don't stress too much about the paper card. If you don't have it, just make sure he knows to look you up in the system! Good luck on getting in for this fall!!

I talked to the guy in charge of admissions, and he said that the cut off for spring, as well as last fall, was in the 16 point category. (I.E.- all ppl with 17 pts got in, and some with 16-with the higher GPA's) he said that the cut off has been 17 before, but that's the highest. Hope this helps! Good luck to everyone applying!

Hello All! I am currently getting my nursing school application together for OCCC's (Oklahoma City Community College) Traditional Pathway Nursing application deadline in April. I just wanted to put some feelers out to see who of you out there are also applying, and to see how we are all doing on our points. I have yet to take my TEAS test (I'll be taking it next week), and I am about to do clinicals to finish up my CNA (to get a preference point). If all goes well, I should be sitting at 18 points with a 3.27 GPA. I heard that the traditional pathway applicants for spring of 2012 had higher preference points, and GPA's than ever before. (DON'T Quote me, but I think it was something like 17 points, and a 3.3GPA) Regardless, it was higher than usual. The spring has, in the past, had less points required for admission than Fall. This was a little disconcerting to me, as I fear I am cutting it close. However, I have also heard that the BADNAP program, (which, in the past, has not even had enough applicants to fill its positions), has accepted applicants without all pre-requisites completed by the application deadline (as required in the past). This year, they are accepting applicants who will have pre-requisites completed before the start of the program. My hope is that this will ease up some tension on the traditional pathway applicants. Have any of you heard anything else? How are your points? What have you been doing to get extra points?
