That sounds awful, Jason. I am about to be a nursing student and I couldn't imagine that things like that are allowed to go on. Before you just up and quit, possibly damaging your career...you see they don't care about the staff...maybe you should try talking to the hospital administrator...there has gotta be something they could do...not only is your license on the line, but people's lives as well. I have a question. Can LPNs travel or is it only for RNs??? What is their pay rate?

I am not sure you are not already doing this, and I hope I don't sound stupid because I am not giving you a specific name brand. But, when I was having that problem, I just carried a small Wal-Mart lotion in my scrub pocket and EVERYTIME I washed my hands, I would lather up. You go through a lot of lotion, but at least your hands will stop hurting. Since you are bleeding from the cracks, you might want to use the advice of the previous replies, my advice is more for long term care, once your skin heals.

Thanks for your advice. I plan on actually talking to KU this week, so we will see how that goes. Now, what do you mean that I can get my ADN and then go on to Masters? Won't I have to get my ADN, then BSN, then my Masters? Please let me know, because I am seriously interested in nurse practictionership. There are approx. 3 schools in the area to get my ADN. One they said that I probably wont be able to start until Fall 2007 because the waiting list is so long, the other two are in Kansas, which means out of state tuition, but one of them requires that you be a Kansas certified CNA...which means more money for me cause I am about to be Missouri certified. That is really the main reason why I am considering LPN school, because I will be able to start the school sooner, ya know. But please let me know about the Masters thing you were talking about. I am a current CNA student set to "graduate" and take the state exam in April. I also have a bachelors degree from UMKC. My delima is this...I have attended KU Nursing school once, back in 2000, but due to suffering from extreme depression, I flunked two courses. I went on to graduate from UMKC, but I have always regretted not getting my nursing degree, because nursing is my passion. I have tried to get a job at area Kansas City hospitals as a unit secretary (I have a lot of clerical experience) to obtain financial assistance in getting back into nursing school, but to no avail. Thus I began CNA school in hopes of setting myself up to get a position at a hospital. Now that school is almost over, I am researching several KC schools for LPN, ADN, and BSN. I am not sure if I should go for my LPN and do a bridge program later (I feel like I am in a rush because I want to start a family soon), go for my ADN, or try to get back into a BSN program. I have talked to a couple of BSN schools, but they have told me that because I flunked a class, I will NEVER be allowed into another BSN school, which I thought was pretty harsh. Is this true? I would appreciate any and all advice on whether to get my LPN, ADN or "go for the gusto" and seriously seek out a route to either get back into KU or another BSN school.
