Mercy St. Mary's of Grand Rapids, MI "New Grad Action Day"
The application process for the RN Residency position was fairly competitive. First a call from HR that included questions about prior experiences and what area of specialty I was interested in. Once cleared by HR, I had to complete a few knowledge and behavioral computer-based tests though Prophecy. After passing these, I was asked to come to New Grad action day where about 30 to 40 candidates met to be interviewed by managers and CNL's from 1 to 2 different floors that were potentially interested. The New Grad Action Day I attended was in January and about 40% of the candidates were offered positions. A good number of them already worked for the hospital as PCA's. However, there has been at least one additional New Grad Action Day since then and I was told that only about 20% of those applied were offered jobs. Are you looking to apply? Do you know what specialty you are interested in?

Mercy St. Mary's of Grand Rapids, MI "New Grad Action Day"
Fortunately things did work out and I have been with Saints since February! It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride, but I have received so much support and know I chose the right place to work. Do you have any specific questions about the Residency or the Hospital itself?

Mercy St. Mary's of Grand Rapids, MI "New Grad Action Day"
Hello fellow RN's! I was wondering if anyone has any insight into the New Grad Internship/Residency Program at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. In the past few weeks I have completed a phone interview, behavioral and knowledge-based tests, and now I have been invited to attend the "New Grad Action Day" after the first of the year. The email about the "Action Day" was very vague and I am wondering if anyone has attended this event? Any insight as to whether there will be an in-person interview at this time or thereafter? I sent a couple emails to HR but so far no response. . . I just got my license in November and this the first response I have received after many job applications (probably preaching to the choir here). As far as I know, this is the only RN Residency program in Grand Rapids and I would LOVE to be able to take advantage of this great opportunity. Thank you in advance for any insight/tips and good luck to everyone still on the job hunt! :)

I got the email too! I plan to be starting an ABSN program next month though so I will likely be giving up my spot. Best of luck everyone! :)

Wow! Thanks for all the input. It sounds like you performed quite well so I'm sure your scores will be a great asset to your overall CSULB score. I did purchase a book which has 5 practice tests for the V version but I am contemplating purchasing a study guide as well. I completely agree it all is about preparing beforehand and keeping your cool during the exam.

Thanks for the update ktizzles! How was the TEAS for you? I am planning to take mine next month and keep hearing how much more challenging the V version is than the previous versions. It's making me a bit apprehensive. :/

@ReaperX: I know just how you feel! I take it CSUN is your top pick? Did you apply anywhere else? I just checked my portal and it says "You have been provisionally admitted to CSUN." From the CSUN ABSN 2012 thread another applicant said this probably means I have been accepted to CSUN, but not the Nursing Department at this point. So....halfway there right? Ha!

Any word on when the next information session will be? The nursing website says that they will announce a date after the election, but nothing is posted yet. . .

Hey fellow ABSN hopefuls! @SABCAL: On my CSUN portal it shows that I have applied to the 2nd Bachelors program and that my preliminary transcripts have been received. Besides that, nothing else yet from admissions. Best of luck!
