Pierce College Spring 2014
Hi valjones! I got the Welcome Letter e-mail but I wasn't able to see any info on the service to use for the background check (unless I'm blind lol). Thanks for the info! Yeah, that's what I did too when the e-mails started flooding my inbox. Likewise, I'm new to Pierce and I'm excited to meet everyone when orientation day comes :)

Hey everyone! A bunch of e-mails were sent by the Nursing Department. Most of the health reqs are easy to come by; any idea where, if anywhere specific, we're supposed to get our background checks and drug tests?

Cal State Univ, Northridge Accelerated BSN (A-BSN) 2013
Hmm, according to JM (the speaker...abbreviated to comply with forum rules ), they are expecting hundreds of applicants...which is about the same as last year's. I guess what makes it "longer" (or perhaps I should say "seemingly longer") is probably because of how some of the requirements for the program have changed. For example, for 2013 applicants, there is a section about "Volunteering", or something about being involved in a health-related field, that wasn't present in last year's application. Couple that with the fact that they are not interviewing (much like before), that may explain the longer waiting time. If anything, those who would be admitted in the Summer cohort would already take a quick dive into it should the month of April arrives, assuming that decisions actually come out that time; the Fall cohort, though, would have a bit of a "break" before full immersion, and would have the benefit of asking questions to then-admitted Summer cohort applicants. We'll just have to see (more like wait) how this goes

Thanks for the update afractaluniverse :) Looks like there's no way to make it any earlier than that lol @ Hopefulpednurse Yeah, to think that students only have less than a month to set things straight before class starts (for the Summer cohort) in May compared to last year's "prep time" is a little too short of a time. I kind of wish that decisions would be out sooner than that time, but I guess we can't control those kinds of things

Hi happyperson2! Thanks for offering your help...I'm pretty sure we're at the edge of our seats until April comes And it's nice to hear/see that a current ABSN student has dropped by the "hopefuls" page to give some words of encouragement :)

@ afractaluniverse Just e-mail her again about that course equivalency; I know it's Soc 1 that they normally require, but you may be able to substitute that anthropology course to fulfill that requirement. She's perhaps the only person now who can give you a definitive answer, since it may take a longer time if you ask the Nursing dept. You can try giving her a call, which would hopefully speed up the process :)

@Hopefulpednurse Really? Oh well, they must be really busy there for us to have two different answers on the same question lol

Hi Hopefulpednurse! I got that same e-mail too just now...looks like it's going to be a REALLY LONG [almost] two months of waiting. EDIT: By the way guys, I got a response from the Nursing dept regarding the Acceptance Letter from Admissions and Records, saying: "Yes please send, drop off, or email your acceptance letter. Thank you." So if you got that letter, make sure to send it to the Nursing dept so they can include it with your application. :)

Hi afractaluniverse! Thanks for dropping by this topic :) You know what, I also got that letter today, but I have no idea whether we should mail it to the Nursing dept or not. I don't remember ------------ saying anything about that when I went to the info sessions...I'll probably e-mail them tomorrow about it and ask as well about that e-mail confirmation thing that past applicants have received around this time. I know, right? It's a new month already tomorrow and I feel like I'm walking the plank or walking towards the edge of a ravine or something lol

I know that we have to be admitted to the University first and then be accepted into the Nursing dept (which is the reason why it shows "Provisionally Admitted" on the Portal, i.e. we will be admitted to the University pending acceptance into the program of the Nursing dept). I remember -------------- saying that we have the option of sending out 2 official transcripts to the dept, since they can just walk to Admissions and give them the other one. What I did for mine, though, since I have a course that is in-progress last Fall, is that I sent them separately: one for Admissions and one for the Nursing dept--same address, but different recipients. Yours would eventually work out as well, especially now that Joanne knows about it, so don't worry :)

Hi nextway55! That's pretty much what we have posted in the portal...nothing so far from the Nursing dept.

@AbigailRose Actually, CSUN is my only pick lol I wish I could've applied to other schools, but the ABSN is more "practical", and cost-effective, for me at least. That's what it says on my portal too...I've checked the CSUN's Nursing website and the FAQs there, and it says that we'll be notified around late Feb/March But according to those early threads here, they received confirmation e-mails that their application has been received around this time! Can't do anything about that, though, except wait. *sigh*

Hi AbigailRose! Yeah, that's pretty much what my CSUN portal shows too, and that they have received my application. My heart is literally pounding in my chest both because of anxiety and excitement :)

According to the last informational session I attended, -------------(the speaker) said that the admissions committee will look at the applications around January of next year, so I guess we all just have to wait.

5 year recency in CA and W's
NickiLaughs is right...as long as your W's have been replaced by a letter grade just like in your case, you should be ok. Schools, even those for Nursing, generally look at the classes you took with the most recent grade reported, so instead of looking at the W, they will look at the B instead. missnurse01 is also right in that W's don't count towards your GPA, but it stays on your transcript. GPA-wise, the school won't factor the W but the B...application-wise, though, it's possible that the school sees the W as "something", which is of course open for interpretation. As long as you study hard and get better grades in the classes you plan to refresh on, the schools you'd apply to would see an upward trend as far as your grades are concerned: a positive sign that you are definitely working on whatever it is that you may have missed before. Best of luck! :)
