  1. 2) age 18 3) after finishing BSN in 3 years and paramedic certificate commission in the military, then when I'm done pursue some advanced practice
  2. 1) nursing to save people's lives
  3. I am a first semester clinical student. I know how you feel. I am 18 and just graduated high school and will finish my BSN a semester earlier than all of my peers because I got in clinical early. I am also taking an emt class and plan on pursing a paramedic certificate as well. The more I do, the more I feel like I might not like nursing, but then I remember I am surrounded by basically all chicks most of whom just want to be med Surg/LTC. So my recommendation is stick with it. Keep up the grades and go advanced practice or get into some ems classes too. That's what I'm doing and it keeps me sane.
  4. Hmm, didn't realize that, great info!
  5. I have often tossed this thought around in my head. I got into clinicals early at my school and will be done a semester earlier than all of my classmates who started off with me right out of high school with my BSN. I think it would be neat to go to med school but so would being a DNP. Take extra classes, see how you do and don't think being a nurse will hold you back from med school, I know plenty of MDs/DOs that were RNs at some point. You can do whatever if you dedicate yourself to it!
  6. STNA is what they call a nurse's aide in Ohio aka CNA.
  7. I thought I read that statistic on the Johnson&johnson website. I'm only talking state funded community colleges. I live in Northwest Ohio and I know all of the ones within a 2 hour radius of me have at least a 1 year wait list.
  8. Oh also make sure you take the classes to get on the wait list ASAP! Like at my school you had to be an STNA and take the freshman experience class to even qualify for the program.
  9. I avoided it with a high GPA, there are only about 33 schools that offer the associate's degree for an RN without a wait list. Personally, I took a semester of classes got a high GPA and got into clinicals and now I will be done with my bachelor's a semester early. Just stay on top of things and contact those who are in charge of clinical admission. That's what I did and it worked for me.
  10. Thanks Gradius, Air Force is probably my first choice! Although, I would be excited to have the opportunity to serve as an officer in any branch of the military.
  11. Medic2BSN13, When do you think it'd be appropriate to contact a healthcare recruiter? The way my college does their nursing program, I will be an RN two years from now with an associate's degree and then one year following I will have my BSN completed. I know I'll need my BSN to commission.
  12. Thanks for the insight, so do nurses generally just go to a sort of officer's indoctrination school instead of an OCS? If they choose to do so.
  13. Thanks for the advice
  14. Thanks for the advice!
  15. I am a male nursing student starting my first semester of clinicals in January. I am currently enrolled in an ADN program for my RN and will be an RN in two years (fingers crossed!) I then intend on doing an accelerated RN to BSN program through my school, so I should have my BSN done in 3.5 years. I currently hold a good GPA and also am enrolled in an emt-basic course (I'll be done in February). I'm 18 years old and my goal eventually is to become a DNP. I'd also really like to serve my country in the military as an officer at some point. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for getting into a DNP program and/or getting into Officer Candidate School for the military? Also any info on strengthening my résumé for both of these endeavors would be super appreciated!
