  1. Can you expand on the differences of clinical placement process between Yale and Vanderbilt?
  2. I have been lurking for awhile. I am also trying to decide between Yale and Vanderbilt for the AG-ACNP program. I just found the FB group and sent in a request to join. I am literally floored at how lucky I was to get into either program, let alone both.
  3. So you plan to get your ADN at LAVC and then transfer to a CSU and do an RN-BSN program? If that is the case you will need those non-nursing courses to fulfill your GE requirements as part of your BSN program. Best bet is to get them done at the CC level and then they are out of the way. To get a job in LA you really need that BSN anyways, so you might as well tackle that now while you have a roof over your head and parents who are willing to help you. I am in the LA area also and the market is intense for new grad nurses, especially without the BSN level education. My advice-stay in the courses.
  4. You can only look forward. If you think about it, 2016 is not that far away and time goes by quickly. Take advantage of living in the present and the future will be here before you know it. Look at it this way...you are still way ahead of those who have yet to begin.
  5. I went to an information session last summer. This program is very competitive to get in. The average prerequisite GPA is about 3.8. As of last summer they had approximately 400 applications for 38-40 spots in each cohort. Admission is all about the points system. You get points for grades in each pre-req (As get more points than Bs etc), volunteer work, CNA certification etc. The key is to maximize your points. If you have prerequisites in progress you will get less points which will impact your chances of acceptance. The program is extremely fast paced and you are encouraged to not have any outside work or commitments. Attend an information session if you can. It is pretty much the only way (that I have found) to get questions answered. Good Luck!!
  6. I am new here. What is a "sticky" and how do you find them? I tried a search and nothing came up. Thanks!
  7. Do as many practice problems as you can and take advantage of office hours. I used Homework Helpers for Chemistry as a supplement and it really helped. I also signed up for Aleks' online chemistry course and it helped. Somehow I passed an Honors Chemistry class with an A. (Took Honors as it was the only section that had space available....) Good Luck!!
  8. Have you thought about doing volunteer work abroad? There are some great programs out there that can even give you health care experience through volunteering. Cross Cultural Solutions and Project Abroad are the ones that I am most familiar with.
  9. thanks so much for your input I really appreciate it. That is the type of information that I was looking for. The possibility of differences in explanations was a concern that I had as well.
  10. Hi! I am looking to take Chemistry during the Spring 2013 semester and came across Aleks.com. I was wondering if anybody has used it as a supplement to in-person or online Chemistry classes. I have seen it used in action for math and it looks like it would be a great companion to the class. Anybody use it or know of it? Thanks!
