  1. Good day everyone, I was wondering if anyone out there knows if Onward Healthcare, is still sponsoring foreign nurses for Green cards? My wife and I are Canadian nurses and very much want to take the first step towards citizenship. If anybody can help out it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou in advance for all help.
  2. I've been a nurse going on 15 years now and still love it. Being a nurse has it's ups and downs as does any career, but I find it so rewarding knowing that in some small way , maybe I helped to improve someone's life.:yeah:
  3. Good Day everyone, Has anyone ever heard of any studies or hospital policies anywhere , that the IV pumps should not be above a certain height on the IV pole? I'm just wondering since most of the nurses where I work place the pumps almost at the top of the pole, so they don't have to squat or bend to program the pump. I myself think this is extremely dangerous d/t tipping of the pole, but no one will listen to me without information to back it up. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I worked at the General in Regina, and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Newbies get no respect, and the staff is cut throat. Often others slept on the job (this was with fresh SICU patients). I couldn't get out of there soon enough. Very poor morale.
  5. Thanks Tweety and everyone for your encouraging words. It gives us hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel.
  6. Thanks to everyone who responded. :) I think this IS a disability, at least it's totally screwing with my wife's ADL's and she feels disabled. She says sometimes it feels like fear, but I guess that's what panic attacks are - fight or flight kicks in, and that's a fear response. She went through hell in nursing school, and I'm wondering now if that's why she's having panic attacks at work. She went through nursing school years ago and had above satisfactory evaluations and grades, but was hounded and harassed by instructors. I wonder about PTSD, but I'm no psych guy so I don't know. Anyways, I'm just worried and rambling now. Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
  7. My wife has been reading this thread with interest, and Leslie, your post really hit home with her - she can really relate to what you're saying. Hopefully she's not headed for the more severe type of anything, although her status seems pretty severe now, at least to us. Her psych is the head of te department, and flies in from Boston twice a week to see patients. It's an odd arrangement, but we hope he's good. He seems intelligent and doesn't seem to jump to over-medicate. He's talking about adding a drug to enhance her antidepressant and we don't know what that is yet. I hope there's a way out of this for her. Thanks for the words of support. :)
  8. Thank you. I wish you the best. :)
  9. Thanks for your reply! She did have a psych, and just got a new one. She's starting therapy for the first time next week. She was told she has "trauma" issues. As for her meds, she's tried Lexapro and is now on Cymbalta and Geodon. I'm here for her, she's just very afraid that she'll lose her career. She's afraid that she'll never get better again. I don't know what to tell her because I'm not in her shoes. It's a tough situation.
  10. My wife is an RN, returning to work after several physical struggles. In the midst of these, she has been hit with depression and anxiety/panic, and it seems to be destroying her life. She's unable to go to work without having a panic attack and just gave up her full time job. At home, she just sits or sleeps all day, and feels bad because she can't seem to do anything else. She's currently taking meds, but nothing seems to help. Does it get better than this?
  11. Ah, sorry for the confusion. She's applied at a different hospital than she's at now.
  12. She hasn't been called for an interview yet. She dropped off her resume to HR last week. Thanks for the response. :)
  13. After years of travel nursing, a friend recently applied for a regular RN job. Does anyone know what the application process is like nowadays? Do things normally move fairly quickly, or does it take a while for interviewing? It's not a big hospital so I thought maybe they would be quick about deciding - she's getting a little anxious. Thanks for any help. :)
  14. There are plenty of diabetics out there who reuse needles and lancets, and have been doing it for years and years. I don't think they're about to change. lol
  15. It sounds like you've got your hands full. I'll fill in the DW. She has her job description but it's never the same as the real world.
  16. Thanks for the response - I'll pass this info along. :) I think the DW is quite daunted at this point - it's a step outside of her box. What have you found to be the most challenging component of your position?
  17. My DW is considering a Staff Development position. She has no experience in this area and was wondering if there are any good books out there that may be of help. Also, what do you all find most challenging and enjoyable about your jobs? Do you do a lot of public speaking, or is it more hands-on stuff? Thanks for any input. :)
  18. i agree with you - they missed out! i was hoping this happened a long time ago, and isn't practiced today, but obviously this was fairly recent. i'm sorry you were treated this way. hopefully this isn't a common occurrence.
  19. This happened recently? Where (what state), if you don't mind me asking? Maybe we all need to pay a little more attention to this issue - I didn't even know it existed until recently. That's pretty scary stuff. Apparently nursing school needs to include stuff like this in their curriculum....
  20. I'm living in Maine, and the oil expenses here are putting people in bad situations. I've heard people having to choose between food and oil.
  21. Oh geez, I can't even imagine that.
  22. Wow - this is really true, in my experience. Just an update: the nurse I was speaking of in my initial post here still has not heard whether or not she got the position. She's not sure if they're still checking her out or what's going on.
  23. Well, I was working and going to nursing school. There was no room for a second job. I think there's more to every story. I'm not perfect so I don' feel I can judge other people or assume I know their life. To each their own.
  24. I agree. I know $30 doesn't seem like a lot, but it sure is when you don't have it! I can think of several times in my life where I couldn't spare ANY money - had to struggle to pay for food and electricity.
  25. That's logical - makes perfect sense. I couldn't understand why Marcaine would work and then not work. This patient opted not to have the lumbar block because he didn't trust that it would work. Thanks for the response. :)
