  1. I apologize if this is in the wrong section of the forum, but I wasn't sure where to go. Unfortunately, I did not my AANP certification last week and I need to take my 15 hours to be cleared again. I don't know if I am missing something, but I'm not sure where exactly to go to find these CEs that seem specific for the categories. They seem very broad to me, maybe that is done by design. Can anyone point out sites or make suggestions where these types of CEs can be found? I called and was told to Google it, so not as informative as I was hoping. I would appreciate any help or suggestions! Thank you.
  2. This thread doesn't seem to be getting to much traction, but this seems like a decent place to put my comment. I'm going to be graduating in the Summer of 2021 with my MSN in family practice. I'm strongly considering/wanting to move to Tennessee. If anyone sees this who is an NP in the state I'd love to hear your thoughts on the work environment, market, general practice, etc. Thank you!

Thank you for your comments. So just to clarify, to list the G and G followed by TPAL is redundant or unnecessary? As I listed before I had G4P3T2P1A0L4, but the para is wrong to list or at least not the way I have it? Thank you!

I'm really hoping someone can help me out with this. I have an assignment for an OB lecture trying to calculate a Pt's OB history, which I havent had to do in a while and I'm really hoping someone could just tell me if I'm doing this correctly or if I'm misunderstanding something. Q: A Pt in her second trimester comes in for a prenatal visit. This is her 4th pregnancy. She currently has 2 living children delivered at 38 weeks and one set of twins delivered at 36 weeks. This is my assessment: G4 P3 T2 P1 A0 L4 I've been using a few sources to try and check my work, but I keep coming up a number short/high in one or two places. Am I right or wrong? I'd really appreciate some guidance. Thanks so much!
  5. I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this, but it seems reasonable. I looked and wasn't able to find much information, but I am looking to see if anyone has taken the advanced patho class online through the University of Kentucky? I am looking for an alternative patho class and this one was suggested to me by a professor of mine. If anyone has taken it or knows someone else who has, I'm just curious of impressions of the content and learning format, interactions with professors, students, if there is any interaction etc. It seems to be fairly well set up and learn at own pace, which works for me. Any input is appreciated. Thank you.
  6. I "traveled" to south Florida (WPB area) to start the 2017 year for two contracts and I can tell you I would never do another assignment in the area again. I was living in Seattle prior to that and wanted to be close to home for the holidays. That's why I used the quotations around the travel. As the previous person said, a majority of hospitals down there are HCA, paralon, etc. which in my experience is not good. Something to keep in mind, at least when I was traveling to an HCA facility, you had to be a minimum of 50 or so miles from your "home" address, so that made some positions a bit challenging. To be fair, I've never traveled to Miami, but as someone who went to the University of Miami for my BSN, that's the "Cane" in my name, I would never work in any hospital in that area after doing my clinicals there. I guess I would just be prepared for the possibility of some pretty harsh working conditions and that's putting it mildly. Again, these are MY experiences and yours may be totally different if you travel to the area, but I would be careful. If you have any questions feel free to PM about hospitals, etc. I still have a few friends in the area from school and I know the area in general pretty well. Good luck!
  7. Hello! I'm starting at UT in Austin in the Fall, but still like to introduce myself haha. It's always great to meet new people. I'm new slightly new to Texas in general after moving last October.
  8. Hi all. I posted something slightly related to this a while back, but didn't get any responses. I was recently accepted into UT's MSN program in Austin and I'm trying to find others who were as well. I thought it might be fun to connect with some people. If anyone is on and starting in the fall it would be great to hear. Thanks!
  9. Thank you. Yes, I've been very impressed with what I've read and my interactions with individuals involved with the program. I'm just having some trouble wrapping my brain around the total, haha.
  10. I've been looking at this program a lot and I am glad so many people have given thoughts etc. I know this was brought up previously in the discussion, but for those of you that applied/are in the program, is the cost really justified? Again, I say this as someone who is interested in applying, but ~90k seems to be a lot. I guess I'm trying to decide for myself if that price is a good investment long term when other programs seem to be a good bit less. Maybe it really is that good. I'm not criticizing, just looking for ideas as to why the price is warranted. Of course, cost for one person and the means to go about it are different for everyone. Thanks!
  11. Hi all, I recently accepted a position at Dell Seton Medical Center. I'm not from Austin, but I've been a few times over the last few years. I'm going to be out there soon to do my physical/drug screen so I've been looking online for places to live and trying to narrow it down so when I'm there I can check some out in person. For people that live in the area or used to maybe, what are some areas east, west etc. in Austin you might suggest? There seem to be tons of places with all kinds of price ranges. Also, I know traffic is bad, but is it worse heading north, south etc? Being I'm not from the area I'm not sure how that might impact daily travel. Two years ago I lived 8 miles from my hospital is it took 45 minutes to get there so I know simply looking at mileage on a map doesn't mean anything lol. I'll be nights so rush hour is always a consideration. If anyone has any helpful information, options, ideas I would appreciate that very much. Thanks!
  12. CaneRN posted a topic in General Nursing
Before I get into my question, let me say I tried to find the appropriate area to place a question related to PhD nursing, but was unable to locate it. If someone wants to move this post to the correct area, if there is one, please be my guest. I was thinking "specialties", but didn't see anything :/ I have been doing research concerning different programs and areas of focus and I have a few interests, but I've seen the area of pharmacology, more of less, as areas of research for many faculty members at different programs. Pharmacology was my favorite class in undergrad and I've always had an interest in teaching, so this appeals to me on different levels. I am wondering, what other career options does one have with a PhD who made their focus or conducted research in pharmacology? A lof of the other research interests by current faculty at these different institutions have obvious practical applications, along with teaching, but this one is lost on me a bit. I have done searches online on other sites and here, but couldn't seem to find much. Thanks!
  13. The EKG test is no big deal as someone previously posted. I took it in the spring of 2015. I'm assuming they still give out the work books or make them available to download. If you do all those, you have basically seen the test. If you don't pass the first time you can retake it too, although I don't think it's administered in a different way. I don't work there anymore so I can't be sure, but I doubt it's change much if at all. Good luck!
  14. Oh nice! Ok so your from the other coast too lol. I'm moving from Florida.
  15. Hi Seattlebound, great name. I actually just accepted a position in Seattle yesterday so the living thing has quickly become my next "thing" lol. I'm most certainly NOT the best person to ask as my number of hours in both places can be described in terms of hours there, but I enjoyed both locations (Kirkland and Redmond). Again from the brief time there if I was going to pick one of those I would probably choose Kirkland, but again I was only there for like 4 hours, tops, so my opinion is skewed at best lol. Good luck! Where are you coming from if you don't mind me asking?
  16. Thank you for your input, RiskManager. Yes, I certainly noticed the heavy traffic when I visited, haha. My very first job I actually lived about two blocks from my hospital and loved it so I was really hoping to replicate that in some capacity. Although two blocks might be a bit unrealistic. And yes, I love being outdoors and active etc. which is one of the things that led me to look into the state in the first place. I was actually just offered a job yesterday so I will be spending the next few days carefully thinking! That is why replies from others have been/will be helpful :)
  17. Thanks for replying! I really enjoyed my visit, but it's tough to know after a fairly quick trip. I agree most of the people I interacted with were friendly. At this point, I don't have a specialty I'm looking into exactly since I'm on a very generalized unit now. I think I can always get more specific later. I actually do have my license already! I started the process early lol. I'm hoping to find something in the next few months. I'm just trying to look for something good. Good luck with the move! Please let me know how it goes. I don't know how to message people, but maybe you can keep me informed on here somehow lol. Any info is helpful!
  18. I've been a member here for a while, but never posted so this is my first. As the title suggests I am looking to relocate to Seattle or a surrounding area. I actually just came back from a quick trip out there just to get a feel for the area. I really enjoyed the trip, but that was only a few days. I don't know anyone in the area, say for an extended family member much older than me. I'm 29 years old and it seems like there is plenty to do, to say the least. I'm just curious how those that live/work in Seattle enjoy living and/or working in the area. What are some things you like about the area and some thing you don't or wish you would have known before going there (assuming you moved). I guess just thoughts in general. By all accounts I see more positives than negatives, but that is from a small sample size on my part. Again, I don't know anyone so maybe that is making the process a bit more complicated for me or at least it seems that way, but I know plenty move to new and different places all the time. Sorry for such a long post haha. Any thoughts are welcome, thanks! Feel free to send a private message if anyone would rather communicate that way too.
  19. This is essentially a report of a thread I started in another section, but thought it might be better here.First of all, this is my first post and as with all forums there is a certain etiquette normally followed. I'm not aware of that just yet, lol. If this is in the wrong section I'm sure it can be moved. Anyway, I found out last week I was accepted at UM for their accelerated BSN program. I know the school has a good reputation (at least from what I read/hear). I'm just curious to hear from any former students and their opinions of the school and its program. Also, what it is like going to school in Miami. Personally, the city doesn't thrill me, but I'm going on assumptions. My first BS is from UF. For anyone familiar with the two cities knows they are quite different. At this point I can't see really good reason to decline (I'm aware of the money), but I want to do my homework. I have a little over a week before I need to let them know. Just curious to hear people's thoughts and, ideally, those who have gone through or are currently in the program. Thank you for any feedback!
