Accepted to the LPN program in FL
Making the call of a career change is totally up to you, call the schools and ask to speak with someone from the program to find out more information. Nursing school is not for everyone, and not easy (I thought it would be) but very rewarding. You will have to take an entrance exam (TEAS and probably the TABE), and the admissions process is very stressful.

Venting
Having a hard time with clinicals. I thought I was doing extremely well, which I am I guess, but apparently my instructor doesn't think I'm more than "average". Really upset about this because not once has one of my 3 clinical instructors mentioned that I need improvement on anything, and then they give me a grade below my expectations without even talking to me about it. I just wish they'd be a little more helpful, I mean isn't that their job? I asked my main instructor at campus how they come up with these grades, because others in my group were given 100%, and she showed me. Made me feel like absolute CRAP, had me crying and everything because I never knew about all of these things I am satisfactory at until she laid everything on me all at once. A majority of those things, I might add, didn't even feel true, especially when you see the clinical instructor maybe 3 times (not including conference) for 5 minutes all day! Even the nurses I've been assigned to have given me more feedback and have ended each day saying "you're going to make an excellent nurse." I think the worst part for me is that I do so well in all of my other grades but the clinical skills brought me down to a B, whereas others in my class had B's and got brought up to an A because of the clinical skills. They get higher grades than me when my grade was originally higher than theirs. I don't know, I guess it is kind of silly to be upset about a B, because "passing is passing" but I think its just not being informed that I could be doing better that really bothers me. And I'm so used to excelling at everything, it really hurts when I don't. I'm just disappointed in myself, but I think that the situation could have been avoided entirely.

I GOT IN!!! Lake Tech P/T LPN
I'm not sure about the in house scholarship because i'm not using it

I GOT IN!!! Lake Tech P/T LPN
teas test isn't about "passing or failing" its about lying within the top percentage of grades.... for example, i believe my class had to make an average over 50 something % to get an interview.... most people got above a 60%. The science portion was really hard. I wouldn't waste your money on a class on something thats covered in a study guide.

I GOT IN!!! Lake Tech P/T LPN
Cynt87, Keep calling! Keep emailing! Do not give up! Eventually someone will get back to you. Go to the lpn page on the website and email Ms. Veremakis at the bottom of that page. She's pretty good about getting back in touch. Financial aid: I'm not going to lie, it's very confusing. I used fafsa and it covers everything with the pell grant. I did have to pay a little out of pocket because part time requires you to have a certain amount of hours before they can give you a certain amount of money, but I will be reimbursed in january. there is also an in house scholarship to help with the cost I do not know when the next p/t program starts. Again, you'll have to call/email to find that out. the TEAS test was very difficult! especially the science portion. definitely spend alot of time with that study guide, it will really really help. TABE test is really easy, very basic, most people in my class got 12.9 (highest score) for all the categories. I'd say brush up on your algebra for that one and you should be fine :)

Lol I wasn't sure either, I called and they said to wear "business casual" clothes.... whatever that means! haha I'm wearing Khakis and a collared shirt. I wasn't sure if jeans would be okay, I would imagine as long as they don't have holes in them they'd be fine! Guess I'll see you today!

Stethoscope ID - HAD to share with everyone!
So, I just got myself a Littman Classic II for nursing school (First day is Monday!!! So excited!) I wanted to get a nice id tag, I didn't really find any off of Allnurses.com forums, but, I did find some AWESOME id tags for stethoscopes and also badge reel clips for student id tags. I bought both, because I really love to stand out and when everyone is wearing the same uniform, it makes it kind of tough. Here is the link for all of my fellow fashionista-future-nurses out there! Hopefully you'll be as happy as I am! https://www.etsy.com/search?q=stethoscope id&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US

If you have been accepted into a LPN program...
71% .... the curve for interviews is pretty high! I think to get an interview at my school you just had to make around 55%

Lake Tech LPN 2013 PM P/T Any one else starting April 15th?
SOOO I was wondering, who else got in to the lpn program at Lake Technical Center in Eustis, Fl? I'm starting the P/T PM program April 15th! I finished registration last week and I received full financial aid, thank goodness, so I'm good to go! I've been getting a lot of questions on where to get things, so I figured, I'd just put everything in one place so I don't have to rewrite everything a million times :) I ended up splurging and buying myself a Littman Classic II stethoscope, figured, "Might as well!" I got it off of medisave.net and got free engraving and 5% off coupon I found on retailmenot.com. However, a friend that previously graduated did tell me that you don't have to get a fancy stethoscope, and if you do, she said to be careful with it because most of the time she found she didn't hande hers with care. I also ordered a medical organizer, it's basically a little pouch with a pen light, a pen with different colors, and bandage scissors, I read somewhere that down the line we're supposed to have those, so figured I'd kill two birds with one stone. I got my shoes at Kmart. They are Cobbie Cuddlers brand, all white leather, and Kmart in town is closing so they were 20% off. I was going to get the clog style, but they didn't have my size, I ended up getting the ones that lace, they are so cushiony, I really like them even though they are a little granny-like, they look nice with the scrubs. They were $20 and I think i'm going to get them in Black and Also get the clogs in black and white for "the future" (haha) As for scrubs, I've been collecting mine since CNA Classes, I get most of mine from goodwill, because lets face it, they're expensive! But as far as brand new scrubs, I've found Walmart to be the best deal. As far as text book go, I haven't purchased mine yet, because I don't technically start class until June because I am already a CNA and my CPR card is updated, I've just got to get a first aid card. My friend who graduated is selling me most of her old text books, and I've read that you can go on to the current lpn 2013 facebook and comment to find out if anyone else wants to sell theirs. Other than that, this is pretty much where I'm at right now! I'm so excited to meet each and everyone of my new class mates! Never thought I'd be excited to go to school again :)
