  1. Surely then, if they accept 98% of people, then many people should be failing out correct? If they are taking everyone then naturally many people should be doing very poorly if their problem is truly academically robust.
  2. Walden's acceptance rate is over 98%. If you have a pulse and two years of experience than you get in. That makes it a poor academic institution. Diploma mills for NPs are dangerous and take away from our profession.
  3. I cited academic sources in my original post. Apparently you neglected to read them. For-profits are demonstrably worse academically than not for profits. This upsets you, but is fact.
  4. I was speaking towards for-profit colleges, not online based. There are a lot of very good reputable distance accessible programs. Walden, Phoenix, etc., are NOT some of them however.
  5. I'm a practicing NP, and on the hiring committee for NP's at my hospital. I promise you that for profit schools carry a gigantic negative connotation in hiring decisions. If you already have a job lined up and just need the slip of paper I guess then they are not bad ideas, but otherwise you should steer clear. For profit schools have very, very, well documented problems with educational quality. I don't think anyone with a sound mind can argue that. There have been literal senate (U.S.) hearings about the poor quality of for profit enterprises. Why would you think Walden would magically be the "good" one in a sea of very bad institutions? For profit institutions have lower scores on professional exams, including nursing (Field 2011) and higher rates of loan defaults (Deming, 2011) What makes Walden different from all these? David J. Deming, Claudia Goldin, and Lawrence F. Katz, "The For-Profit Postsecondary School Sector: Nimble Critters or Agile Predators?" National Bureau of Economic Research 2011. Kelly Field, Demographics Do Not Explain For-Profit Colleges' Shortcomings on Student-Success Measures, GAO Says, Chronicle of Higher Education, Dec. 7, 2011,Demographics Do Not Explain For-Profits' Shortcomings on Student-Success Measures, GAO Says - Government - The Chronicle of Higher Education
  6. I am a licensed and credentialed APN. For profit schools have very, very, well documented problems. I don't think anyone with a sound mind can argue that. 7. My hospital hires NP's for the type of role you are describing.
  8. Working at a retail clinic you will only see a small amount of conditions. It's great for picking up a few extra hours, but might be tougher if you work it full time for it long time and then try to get out into a more diverse practice.
  9. I call the Chief of Medicine (a DO) my boss, because he is my boss. NP/PAs at our hospital are all under the chief of medicine, not the DON. Do other people do this differently?
  10. Graduated September 1st. Took and Passed ANCC October 26th. Was Licensed in NM on November 18th. Got DEA License December 17th.
  11. "and he has pain from it all over" "As well as advice in dealing with a pushy patient?? He does pressure me to give his refills" This is worrisome. Think about it this way: if this pt was not a LPN at your facility would you be giving them these medications? If this pt came into your office off the street with this story, would you fill these? I can tell you I unequivocally would not. Physical exam is not impressive, no official dx supporting Adderall usage, vague complaints, and being pushy? Read between the lines here ...
