Grading scales and number of questions on your exams
Believe it or not, you guys are not failing because you have less questions on exams (mathematically, the # of questions do not matter, the percentages however do). the material in fourth semester is harder. I didn't even go to the best school in the state (NCLEX pass rates I believe determine what a great school it is) and we've had 30% of people fail 4th sem. the fact that you guys are friends and "you have made it this far" will not be a strong enough reason in front of the Dean. my school had greater or equal to 75% passing, in 4th we had 60 multiple choice and 30 fill-in just to answer your question.

Capella University vs. Walden
Capella University is the only one in the nation to have a Diabetes Nursing specialization! it costs 30K to go ADN-MSN! if you are ANA member, you get 10% off! University of San Francisco only has a Clinical Nurse Leader specialization (mind you, pretty new discipline; it seems to not be under the Clinical Nurse specialist umbrella, which is one of the things some DNP/ NP programs ask for) and it costs 70k!

Nurse Practitioner Program Admission
there are universities that will accept alternate BS degrees. What you then will be looking for will be "pathway MSN" or something like that. you really have to go to All Accredited RN to MSN / Masters in Nursing Programs or any website for that matter and look at each school. Good luck!

Lpns in the er
In south CA, there are hospitals that have LVN's in the ER. ratio is 14:1. ACLS and PALS are not needed, because you won't be allowed to push those meds regardless.
