  1. I see some people have had some trouble find the group. I have posted a link to the group below. If you still cant find it. You may inbox me your name here and i will add you. Oppy i am going to add you right now. I will continue to check this blog for people needing help navigating this. Sorry for the confusion. Log into Facebook | Facebook
  2. I have created a Facebook group. It's called University of Miami unofficial cohort group 2021 bsn-dnp crna....i had to put something in so that it didn't look like the school created it....so unofficial works lol....
  3. It always happens either now or later. I'm very interested because I will be visiting Miami for the first time this weekend. So, I need info on a lot of things from neighborhoods to seek out to live in and all sorts of things. Seeing as this school receives a lot of out of state people, I know I will not be alone in this. So, the Facebook page would be perfect.
  4. Awesome!!!! I work with quite a few ppl from south GA. I love that Atlanta is such a wonderful mix of cultures. I'm happy and excited for everyone. I can't wait to meet you all in Miami. I'm actually going to visit soon.
  5. Yes, I did later this evening!
  6. Yes, I'm going to UM with you!!!!
  7. Check your canelinks. They are updating!!!+
  8. Yes, it does. I emailed admission office on 04/21/17. She responded immediately.
  9. So, I am joining the nervous party here. I did a web interview on 04/07/17 for the entering class of 2018. OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG... I sent an e-mail and was told that they will be finishing the last round of early admission interviews this week. So, we should receive notices in about 2 weeks.... I am a nervous wreck... I continue to check canelink and my e-mail. I cannot pass the time fast enough. Goodluck to everyone else who still has the interview in front of them. The best advice has been given in this chat already... For those accepted, do you mind sharing a little about your background? What type of unit are you coming from? How many years of experience? I am so nervous.
  10. Hello, I will be applying to the University of Miami's BSN-DNP program in a few months, so I wanted to start this thread. I found this blog site to be very helpful during the time of which I applied for nursing school. Feel free to post her both alums and people like myself who will be applying to the school with me in this spring. I'm interested in knowing more about getting in. What are some of the key points the school focus on? This is aside from the general things listed on the website. I meet all of the basic requirements. For example, another school I'm interested in focused on teaching. So, it appeared those with a teaching background who came from a good ICU were exceptional canidates. I'm nervous and excited about applying and am hopeful that I will get in soon. If anyone would like to share with me specifics on the school, since I have yet to visit that would be very helpful. If I am invited to an interview, I plan to visit in person. I live in Georgia, so it's not a quick drive down. I plan to take the ccrn prior to submitting my app. For those who have been through the program or been accepted, do you all think it makes a difference if you have your ccrn prior to submitting your app? I know the program does not require the GRE, but would it be worth taking it as well? For those accepted, how many years of ICU experience on average do these applicants have? Do you all think the type of experience is considered, for example 2 years in a Level 1 SICU vs 5 years in a small MICU? Please comment with thoughts...
  11. Hello everyone, I am interested in attending Rush for my DNP in anesthesia. Congratulations to you all for being accepted. You are where I hope to be soon. Would any of you be willing to list your GPA, GRE, and important parts of your application that you believe helped you get into the program? Also how many years did you have in the ICU and what type of unit was it? What has been your experience in applying to Rush? Do you only have a BSN or do you have other degrees? I am very interested in this program! I am going to list some details about myself below if you care. Please share if you think there is something that I could do to make myself a strong applicant? i.e. What made you stand out you think? Thank you so much for your input? Congratulations on your awesome accomplishment. Tidbits about me: - BSN degree obtained Spring 2015 (3.2 gpa) - BS biology (3.8) - MAT biology (4.0) - I will be retaking the GRE again (2012 GRE 300 & 3.0) - 1 year level 1 Trauma SICU as a nurse extern and almost 1 year as an RN on that unit - Lots of shadowing experience of AA, CRNA,& PAAA

  14. I could not agree more.
  15. First of all, it's not mercury so stop calling it mercury, and do your research. Secondly, I'm happy the flu vaccine is apparently a good filter although it wasn't meant to be. I'm very thankful that there are certain nurses who will never be by my bedside. Thanks flu shot. Influenza causes more than 200,000 people in the U.S. to be hospitalized every year. All of which encounter multiple nurses. Up to 49,000 people die each year from flu-related causes. Prevention is key. Ideally, you should get the seasonal flu vaccine by Thanksgiving -- the holiday season means hugs and kisses, which help spread the flu virus. However, getting vaccinated with the flu shot makes sense any time during flu season, which may last from September to May. Severe allergy to eggs? Then flu vaccines -- which are cultivated inside chicken eggs - may not be safe for you. Talk to your doctor to be sure. There are more options. Concern that there's a link between autism and the vaccine preservative thimerosal (NOT MECURY) has prevented some parents from getting their kids vaccinated. Worry no more. Studies have found that there is no link between vaccines containing thimerosal and autism. And if you’re still worried, thimerosal-free flu vaccines are now the standard for children in the U.S. -- and available to adults for the asking. Stuck on the fact that you need to get vaccinated every year? There's a good reason. Flu viruses change, so flu vaccines must change, too. Each year's vaccine is unique, cultivated from the flu strains health officials believe will be most menacing that year. And in the end find another career if you don't like the standards. You are fighting a machine that has more options and makes more sense than the average 1st grader. How does one cure the sick when they are more than likely making the sick sicker?
  16. You should do more research on Thimerosal. I wish you the best in your pursuits of your AD.
  17. I am 27 years old, and I have a bachelors and masters in biology. It has been my own preference to not receive the flu vaccination because of my own beliefs. However, I have been accepted to one of the best nursing schools in the U.S. I also live less than 3 mi from the CDC headquarters. With all of that being said, should my school require that I be vaccinated against the flu, I will be vaccinated with no hesitation. Does it go against what I want? Yes, but I understand: 1. It's a requirement for something I am choosing to do. 2. I understand that I will be in higher risk environments for contracting the flu since I will be around more people with the flu. 3. Although I may not be sick, there is a good chance I could carry the flu; thereby, transmit it to my patients who are already sick. Now, I don't have to go and look up all the numbers you ask for because I also have a partner who works at the CDC and has first hand knowledge of the flu division and works with the flu office. So, I am informed? In fact I am probably more informed than I will ever need to be. And I still say that nurses should be vaccinated because they are in a higher risk environment for transferring the flu to their patients and their families. Ignorance would be me dismissing all of the success of the flu vaccination and dismissing it because of a preference that holds very little wait. When the CDC and FDA stop supporting the flu vaccination, then I will support you claims and look for that perfect scientist with the perfect lab with the perfect data analysis located in the perfect universe.
  18. If she does not like the requirements, choose another profession. No one is making her be a nurse. Sadly, medicine and research is not perfect, but this does not mean it should be dismissed for one person. How many people die from the flu each year that's immunocompromised, and how many of those people encountered a nurse? Compare those numbers to the number of nurses who have suffered a death from the flu. I would rather live in a world where vaccination is present versus one where vaccination is absent simply because there was not a 100% success rate. One could not imagine the many diseases and infections we would have if we had to wait on perfection. Matter of fact we would still be dealing with polio. Birth control is only 99.9% effective, so should be take it away as well?
  19. Uhmmmm do you also not believe in hand washing? I'm sorry to say this, but getting this vaccination has nothing to do with you getting sick or your beliefs. Do you understand what being a carrier or vector means? Putting your patients at risks of the flu which could be life threatening to them is crazy. Apparently nursing is truly just a "dream" to you and not a life goal. Get your priorities in order because heaven forbid you become a nurse with these same priorities and you put people's life in danger because of you self centered ideologies.
