  1. Agree completely. If you find yourself still gaining weight after eating healthy, pre-packaged food then look at your portions and food choices. Check out Mediterranean diet of fish, whole grains and natural food. All of the success stories here definitely include plenty of water but I find working 12-13 hour busy shifts on Med/Surge floor is not conducive to frequent bathroom trips. So I drink at least 1L during shift and make up the rest on my nights off. Not sure if you can do this but I maintain my night schedule on my nights off. I work out at home and at a 24hr gym. Best part of going to the gym at 2am is no one there :) I've been depressed working nights and found meditation with posting on this board is preventing me from stress eating. Good luck with your efforts!
  2. Congrats! Any advice handling confusing, potential unsafe situations? Can't find a good mentor at work. Am 5 months from my 1 year mark. Am often 1 of 2 RNs on Med/Surge floor, work nights, 5-6 (sometimes 7) patients per nurse and pushing meds for new LPNs. Just feel confused most of the time as I won't get feed back on my performance till weeks/months after the fact when details are fuzzy. The usual answer I get after realizing potential problems is "don't worry about it...you're new...no one got hurt". Appreciate advice from anyone. Would love to re-post at my one year mark :)
  3. I love my job...am I naive? I'm not new to the work force, work hx -RN grad May 2012; MedSurg RN for past 7 months; retired '06 USMC 20yrs active duty; psych-caseworker '06-'07. Would appreciate advice for a successful RN career. I'm still confused at work asking so many questions Can't find a good mentor at work. Wish I could get immediate honest feedback instead of weeks (sometimes months) after an incident when details are fuzzy. I believe in finding solutions not pointing fingers. I have made mistakes which is why I have a hard time accepting praise for good work. More focused on patient care now that I've pulled knives. Not sure why some become nurses. Experienced people more invested in covering their a** than in preventing mistakes. Just hope to survive long enough to get a clue. Love being an RN; hate starting over in a new career.
