UC Davis Residency March 2013
reginasmall, I'm sure you will get it; you precepted in the right place and that's what they are looking at. Most likely you would start in January, only 3 people start this Monday and the rest in January. I haven't heard about contract but even if there was one, I would sign it in a sec:))) What not to like? 40 hrs/week, the first 6 months while in the training every day M-F with weekends off. (after the training, you choose to work 10 hrs shift four times a week) It's considered a state job so all of the amazing benefits for you. I can't wait to have 3 weeks paid vacation the very first year, plus all of paid holidays and seek days which is another 3-4 weeks! I talked to OR nurses from UCDMC and they told that new grads as respected as experienced nurses and surgeons are very lean and friendly since it's a teaching hospital. You do not need to buy scrubs and now OR even pays for the shoes. Try to show some confidence but not overdue since we are new grads:) I graduated this June

I applied for October too but was told that I have no chances for OR since I didn't precepted there and OR hires ONLY those who was in OR last semester. So I had no chances (stil don't know what got changed) he gave me one example: if Oncogy requests new grad and u didn't precept on Onc floor, then u won't be called. I'm sure u look more appealing now since u are RN now but ur chances only depends from units that hire (if u match) and not on where u r from so hope it would match

but 14 openings is nothing:( (I asked HR about OR and he told me 13, so now I'm thinking if he met the whole March 2013 residency), hope not. I talked one about doing clinicals outside of nor cal and HR said that they do not look at that and give the same priorities to outsiders, so for Dlib it shouldn't be a problem and just a bad-bad timing. I know none of my classmates got a call yet for March residency so you are fine. Good luck!

for reginasmalls: i wish I can give you all 20 questions, but I can't. I got once in a big trouble by sharing this questions with someone online. I was trying to help and that person got me in trouble. I still can't get over that:( Plus on the interview they tell you that you cannot disclose these questions, but anyway:))) know how to be a good team player, how to take care the situation when someone doesn't do his/her part of project, know when to ask for help (and the answer is "right away once you see that you are getting behind); once you fail something, how you learned from that; know something that you are proud of yourself; how your preceptroship prepared you for OR. Tell them that since you took care of pt before and after the surgeries, you know and understand the whole process. You probably won't start this Monday since it does take time to sign papers with HR and do all shots, but who knows? I'm from nor cal, from private university, did not precept in OR but volunteered. Good luck my friend!

UC Davis Residency March 2013
sorry I forgot about this site and haven't check it since I posted. Now I'm not going to be helpful. I was shocked my self to find out how quickly I start. It was 3 people panel. I can't post questions I was asked. Since you had your senior semester in OR you did fine, i know:) But still, did you get it and when do you start? Hope to see you next Monday (one day before election:))) All I know that it's going to be a big group of new nurses. I was told 10-13 but not sure if all of us starts on November 5 (some might start in March, as other RN residency) UCDMC OR is amazing; I was there, it's all high tech and very modern. I am so excited to work there and specially got paid for 40 hours every week! I'm poor broken student

Hi reginasmalls good luck on your interview, hope you'll get it. UCD only contacted people for OR training, not for RN residency. I start in less than 2 weeks (process was so quick) and I thought I would start in March. But I was told that OR training and RN residency would merge together in March. Recruiters are wonderful in UCDMC compare to other hospitals.
