  1. This makes me sick. I am a white RN (feeling stupid even saying that) and have been witness to several requests from patients to not have "non white" nurses or techs and it makes me so mad when management tries to accommodate. That is just saying in this day and age that racism is still alive and that it is ok. I agree with the OP's feelings on who shouldn't be able to request any caregiver....that being said, I have talked to nurses who have been requested to not be the nurse for a patient due to their race and they said the same as OP, that they would rather not have that patient for the same concerns. It is absolutely appalling that being afraid for their license is even a possibility. It makes it difficult for me to have that patient and I wonder what would happen if all of us nurses stuck together and refused to have that particular patient. I would love to see the faces of these patients when management told them that they were unable to get any nurse to care for them because they were racist! I pray I see the day when this is no longer an issue....
  2. I was quoted 43,000 not including books (not sure about technology fees). I spend usually no more than 5-10 hrs a week on school on average. There are lots of group projects/discussions which can be a pain depending on how well your groups work together and plan. I do not have much interaction with the teachers. So far the information has just delved deeper into the BSN program. Next semester I have advanced patho and pharm so hopefully it will be more learning. I had been looking into a program that was accelerated and would have finished in a year. I did not get into that program so sometimes this program seems slow but i have to keep reminding myself that I am moving forward AND I work quite a bit with some time to play thrown it; I don't think that would have been the case in the other program. I hope this has helped!
  3. I began Maryville's FNP online distance program in may. I have worked 60 hrs most weeks and get my homework done during the week at work so I am able to spend my home time with my family. I have gotten almost all A's so far and feel the work is manageable. It does seem even the group that started a couple cohorts before me have had issues but so far I have been happy. I think there are issues with all schools but it is about finding a good fit for you and putting in the work. I believe your life/education is what you make it.
  4. Don't be discouaged. Sounds like with some patience you will be where you want to be. Try to not push yourself too hard because you want the best possible outcome! Praying for you!
  5. I have been accepted to start too. I was disappointed to learn about the extension of the program an additional semester! Ready to get started and be done. what is the title of the facebook group? Can the administrator add me as a friend? - thanks, Christi Hunt
  6. Denied as well. Amazingly I am ok but now have to get cracking to see what else and where else God has for me. Congratulations to everyone.
  7. jenny j - me too. If I remember correctly, our GREs were pretty similar. The wait will be over before we know it. Blessings!
  8. Sorry celticsgirl17. That is dissappointing : (
  9. I had emailed an admissions advisor and I think they said only qualified applicants receive request for interviews ....but maybe not all qualified applicants receive a request for an interview? I am really getting myself all worked up! I literally have to keep repeating to just trust in the Lord, just trust in the Lord....Not much longer before we find out now!
  10. Oh thats good! I did not score very well on the GRE but I am a distance RN-BSN with a good GPA. I am glad they look at the whole person because I am sure they have a decent idea of what it takes to get through this program.
  11. Were you on waitlist for last year?
  12. looks like, from previous threads, maybe just if they have questions? just ready to know yes or no ; )
  13. No email - but worried because I don't check my junk mail before I deleted. Do all FNP applicants have a phone interview?
  14. DONT GIVE UP! I graduated with my ADN last December. I worked while finishing my BSN. I, too, LOVED my OB rotation and knew right away that was where my heart was. I had no idea how hard that department was to get into to. I took my first job offer from the hospital less than 2 minutes from my house. It was a med/tele department nurse and there was not even an OB department in the hospital. For the last year, there has been talk of that department opening back up and I made my interest known right from the beginning. It was decided that anyone they hired for that dept needed to have at least 2 years experience. That is what I kept running into everywhere I applied in OB. Finally I contacted a friend in another hospital in town and asked for the contact name and email for the dept head over OB. I sent that manager an email and just expressed my dismay over not being able to "break into" OB. She offered to give me an interview. I had a former fellow schoolmate that began working there about this same time. She was able to put in a good word for me. I am happy to say I start in the LDRP next week and CANNOT wait! I believe it is a matter of Gods timing, but if we do not put ourselves out there, He may not be able to open the doors. I would contact anyone that you can to see what would make you more marketable for the specialty you are pursueing and I would FOR SURE contact someone that seemed like they were about to offer you a position and went with another candidate. There is the chance they just may let you know why you were overlooked and if it was close, it may be just the impression you need to be first in line for the next opening. Anyone should be able to appreciate someone trying to do what they can to position themselves for a spot in the department they are passionate about. Persistance really does pay off! Hang in there!
  15. I got an email stating that everything was received and that my file was being submitted for review and that I would hear end of feb first of march.....That email just came end of last week.
