Christiana's in Delaware, right near the border of Pennsylvania and Delaware-I don't have my license yet, and I graduate this coming December-so I'm applying to all residency programs so far. Seems like the majority of the hospitals in Philadelphia want you to have your license prior to applying unfortunately

They really do have some amazing units, and the residency program makes you want the job even more lol. If you don't mind me asking where else are you interviewing?? So far for me I've only done main line's residency program and penn state's as well. I plan on applying for Christiana's program as well, once it opens up.

Hi!! I had my interview on the 26th. Waiting to hear back as well-The unit I interviewed with is only accepting one new grad, so I'm not keeping my hopes up, even though main line seems like an awesome place to start. I heard that we're supposed to hear back around 10/11. Good Luck!!

Hello!! So far I like the program. I work full time Monday-Friday, and I am able to make it work. We usually have classes on Thursday/Friday nights (5:30PM) and clinical on Saturdays. Then as you progress through the program they start bringing in clinical on Monday nights (5:30pm-11:30pm/12AM) or Saturday morning (depending on where you are placed) and classes on Thursday nights. The program is tough but definitely worth it, and as long as you plan out study days you should be fine working and doing the program. Good Luck!!

Good Luck!! I'm already in the part time program currently (graduate Dec 2016). I know when I was applying I did not see any threads about the part time program at all, but everything worked out ok and after I got my acceptance letter is when I finally saw a thread about the program (go figure). Temmuz, You've given me some hope for after I graduate . If you don't mind me asking when did you begin looking for jobs? And do you have any prior healthcare experience? I go to Rutgers (formerly UMDNJ) and I have no previous healthcare experience-which has been causing me panic lol I still have a little ways off before I graduate but I always like to plan ahead. Thanks!!

Hi!! I'm in the program now. It is okay so far. We have class thursday and friday night (5:30-8:30 and sometimes until like 10:15pm) and lab on saturdays (8:30-11:30 or 12-3). We haven't started clinicals yet so it isn't too bad. It's as hard as I thought it would be, with some classes being harder than others. I am very happy that I'm in the part time program because I do not know how the full time students do it all lol. I did finish all pre reqs beforehand. I believe that is a requirement to apply. Hope this helps!!

Yes, I faxed in my paperwork for it. I figure it will probably help. Just waiting to see what the dates are for the program to start. Are you doing the NALC program??

Jenn2432, I think the program takes another class for this that equals interpersonal communications. Once they changed the requirements I called Rutgers and asked them about this class because I couldn't find it either, and they gave me the name of another class that they would take for interpersonal communications. I honestly think it was just public speaking but I'm not completely sure

I found out through the mail. My application was finalized with Nursingcas around January 10th though and my admission letter was dated for January 31st. The admission letter I got only had information about the physical forms we have to complete and instructions on sending in the tuition deposit. I called the school and they told me I would get information on classes, orientation and a book list in another letter that they were sending out after the new March 14th deadline. But the academic calendar online says classes start May 2nd, I'm not sure if they're changing this since a lot of people are just hearing back now. I just wish I could get more info about classes and book list, it feels like I'm sitting in limbo lol

I'm so excited that people are finally talking about this program on allnurses. I applied at the beginning of January and got my acceptance letter in the beginning of February for Summer 2014. I would love to hear from others who have applied or have gone through the program themselves. Right now I am just twiddling my thumbs waiting until May for the program to start. I am so sorry I am just getting back to you. I haven't been back to this thread in a while. But I heard back the first week of February, submitted my application January 4th, and it was verified and submitted to the school January 15th. Did you hear back yet??

I just got accepted to Rutgers part time program, the school is in Newark nj classes are Thursday Friday 5:30-10 I believe and Saturday morning clinicals/lab. I applied here specifically because of it's part time nature. I work mon-fri 7-4pm. Hope this helps.

I know this is an old thread but does anyone who went through the part time program at UMDNJ/Rutgers have any advice as far as getting ready for the program?? I got accepted for summer 2014 and I wanted to maybe brush up on material or do something to prepare myself for the program. Is there anything you think I should prepare myself for?? Like the teas? Any advice at all would be helpful

Hey kmb471, I work at the University Hospital in Newark now and I am applying to the part time program in December. But just to let you know they have a shuttle service that can pick you up from the front of the train station and drops you off right in front of the hospital, medical school, and the nursing school. So if you are thinking of taking the train, they make it really safe for you.

Congrats on getting in!! I'm applying for their part time program for summer 2014. If you don't mind me asking what were your gpa, pre req gpa, and did you have any medical experience when you applied? I'm submitting my application in December and honestly I'm terrified lol.

Hello I needed some advice on getting people to submit reccomendation letters without seeming like a pest. I am applying for a part time bsn program that begins summer 2014. I've been trying to start the process of applying early so that in December when I finish my last pre req class I can just hit submit on NursingCAS and get my application in. I have recently begun working at a hospital as a unit clerk in April. Once I got my courage up I was able to ask two nurse managers to write me a recommendation letter for the nursing program. Both seemed excited and willing to write me a recommendation letter; however the letters have not been submitted. I know I am doing all of this super early but I am worried about not getting everything in on time since I have heard bad things about the NursingCAS program. Now my previous employer was a credit union and I know my manager there would write me a fantastic letter of recommendation. So I am wondering if it would look bad if I got the letter from my banking manager instead even though I work at a hospital? Should I wait until like November before I start freaking out about not getting my letters of recommendation from the nurse managers? And how can I send my nurse managers a friendly reminder to write me the recommendation letters without seeming like a pest?? Okay sorry if that was long winded. I just really want to be prepared and get everything done early so when the time comes to submit my application I will not have anything to worry and stress over. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Hi!! I am applying for UMDNJ/Rutgers part time nursing program. I am attempting to write my admission essay. They want an essay of goals and objectives. If anyone could please please please read my essay and give me feedback. ANY AND ALL help is welcomed!!!!! ]My love and appreciation of healthcare began the first night I spent in a hospital. As a child my brother and I were taken from my mother and put into foster care. The night that we were taken I remember being terrified and confused. Scared of the police that were trying to help me because in my adolescent mind, all I could see was that they were the people that were taking me from my home and away from my mother. We were taken to the hospital before we were put into a temporary home. The hospital provided a sense of safety that I had yet to experience that night. The hospital was bright and full of doctors and nurses that smiled at me and answered some of my questions, helping to dispel some of my confusion. As the next few years of my life unfolded I would always remember this night as one of the few times that I felt safe and cared for. This first brief introduction into the healthcare field would leave a lasting impression. It showed me the ability of doctors and nurses to provide a sense of safety to their patients. Once I entered college I knew that I wanted to be able to do the same for others, so I decided to major in biology with a concentration in health professions. During school I volunteered at the local hospital while working full time at a bank in order to afford my education. I volunteered on the neonatal unit of the hospital. On the neonatal unit I was able to assist the nurses with the babies whose mothers were not able to be at their side by comforting the babies and providing the nurses with any supplies that they might need. The time that I spent volunteering was able to show me the compassion that nurses had for their patients and helped me to solidify my interest in the healthcare field. During college I attempted to get a job within the healthcare field so that I could get a better idea of what I wanted to do once I graduated. However, it was not until after I graduated that I was able to secure a job in the field that I wanted. I was hired as a Unit Clerk at ABC Hospital in ABC, NJ. It was during my time as a clerk that I was able to see and understand that I wanted to go to nursing school. During my college years I had always worked with people while in banking. But as a clerk I was able to work directly with patients and beside nurses, doctors, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals; giving me a better understanding of the field that I wanted to enter. Working with patients allows me to better realize how much patients depend on the nursing staff and doctors to care for them and give them a voice when they need one. During my time as a clerk I am quickly able to realize that the units I work on in the hospital depend on everyone; doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, LPNs, clerks, and housekeeping to help the unit run smoothly. It was clearly evident that the importance of teamwork is emphasized in the hospital. I am able to see the demanding job that nurses have. I see nurses that have six to eight patients that work on medical surgical floors of the hospital while also seeing the nurses that only have two to three patients that work on intensive care floors. I see that both kinds of nurses are able to provide individual attention to every one of their patients no matter the circumstance. I have come to understand that a nurse's job is not just dealing with patients but dealing with their families as well. Working as a clerk has helped me realize that there could be some frustrating difficult days as a nurse; but that there are also rewarding ones. My dream of working in healthcare has become more focused and concrete because of my experiences as a unit clerk. I now hope to go to nursing school and get my bachelors of science in nursing degree. My ultimate goal is to further my education even more and eventually obtain my master's degree in nursing.
