  1. Hello, I am a Pre-Nursing student in NYC and I would like to ask a couple of questions. Please feel free to answer. 1) What is a good way to stay focused on studying? I know that I can get better grades and a higher gpa if I were to study harder. I know that if I don't put the effort into these pre- requisite courses I will not make it into the nursing program. My school is looking for 3.0 gpa and higher. My gpa is in that range but of course it's students who have higher than me and would be considered top candidates. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with the work that is given but I know that I can't give up. I just need some tips on how to study. I get distracted very easily. 2) I am currently going for my ADN and will be going for my BSN right after. I work full time at a job that does not relate to health care but I cannot quit because I live on my own. Is there any chance of me landing a job with my associates while I go for my BSN? Even if it is part time. I know that a lot (most) of jobs require BSN. 3) I have been trying to find a CNA job for a while but I have not been having any luck. I have no experience and I honestly don't have the time or energy to do volunteer work. I work 6 (sometimes 5, not guaranteed) days a week and go to school for 4 days, my typical work/school day is from 2am to basically 10 pm and I live off of coffee). Are there any ways that I would be able to land a nurse aide job with no experience in NYC? 4) I created a LinkedIn profile. So far it seems like a great way to network. I have seen a couple of people who are healthcare professionals view my profile but I am one of the free members so I can't see everything. Does anyone have a premium account ? If so , is it worth the money. Is LinkedIn a good and legitimate way to network? I know it seems like a midterm examination lol but I do not mind if a person can or feels like only answering one of my questions. You do not have to answer all of them. I am hoping multiple people reply so I can get some different views on each question. Thank you all in advance !
  2. Would there be a better chance of me finding a cna job between year one and two of nursing school ? What about student nurse, what is the difference between student nurse and cna ? Sorry if I am asking too many questions. Home health pays 9 hr. I think I am going to check it out.
  3. Hi, I have my CNA certification and it has almost been a year and unfortunately I have not found employment. I am desperate to the point where I am willing to leave my job which pays me 15 an hour to work at an agency that pays only 8. I just want to gain experience, have a more flexible schedule and hopefully in the future land a job in a better paying facility. I have been applying to hospitals/nursing homes that say they don't require experience but I haven't received any calls as of yet. I'm still hoping to get an interview someday. I just set up a LinkedIn profile but I an kind of worried that my current employer or one of my co-workers will see it and see that I am looking for work in the field of Allied Health. Also, my current employer does not know that I am going to school for nursing in the fall. The job I work at now is no where near the field of healthcare and I believe it is what is messing me up on chances of gaining employment. I really would like to work as a CNA while I am in nursing school but I feel as if there is no hope for me right now. I really need to find employment before August because I need a job where I can be able to go to school also. I currently work 6 days a week, 8 hours a day. There is no way possible that I can focus in my education working at this job that I am slowly growing to hate more and more everyday. I know I sound like I am complaining but I have no one else to turn to. All of my friends and family are telling me to stay at this job because of the pay but what's the point of having money if I am miserable everyday. I want to work where I can make a difference in someone's life and provide care , not where the only time I am content or "happy" is payday. Any advice or encouraging words will be greatly appreciated
  4. Isabella Geriatric Center does CNA training. It's located in Manhattan. You can look them up online. Their starting pay for CNAs is good also.
  5. Thank you , I never thought about that (the obama campaign and the real estate). That makes a lot of sense. I will be updating my resume today I will give those departments consideration when I become a RN. Thanks for your help.

  7. Hello, I am having a hard time finding work with no experience. I would like some honest opinions on my resume. I take criticism very well. I have omitted some private information such as my name, address and phone number and job locations. All opinions and suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you
  8. Yes I am usually applying online to hospitals , nursing homes and assisted living facility. I am going to do some walk ins and hopefully can speak to someone from human resources. I'm gonna try not to be depressed about it anymore and just work a little harder on my resume and continue to job hunt ! Thanks
  9. Thank you both for your advice. I will call my counselor at my school and try to get some help from her. Also I did try home health and I am currently waiting on a case. I have been calling the agency for about two weeks and the supervisor said she will call me when there is an open case. I completed the HHA class almost a month ago. I will start going in to facilities and dropping off my resume. That is a great idea because I'm sure millions of people apply online everyday. Thank u guys
  10. Hi, I am having a really hard time finding employment as a Cna in NYC. I live in Brooklyn and I am willing to travel within the 5 boroughs. I have been applying ever since June when I got certified but I have not got one interview unless it was from an agency who tried to take my money. I have not heard from any nursing home , hospital or assisted living facility. I am becoming very depressed because I am trying to pay to go to nursing school and this dead end retail job can hardly pay my housing bills. If anyone has any advice of job leads or ways I can improve my job search it will be appreciated. Thank you
  11. I am a little skeptical about applying for a CNA job with TOWNE nursing due to the fact that they asked me for my social security over the phone. My former classmate has been working with them for almost 2 months and hasn't had any complaints. Does anyone have feedback about this agency? Thanks ()
  12. I think educating the resident as to why is is needed is a good start. As you know, never force it on the resident. If they still don't accept then report it to the charge nurse and make sure it is documented
  13. Also if you don't mind me asking, do you have a masters degree. I hear that is what is needed to become a DON. Sorry if that is too personal I'm jus excited to hear your positive story. My goal is to go for my BSN but if my masters is needed then I will go for it. Sometime I read job postings and some say you need your BSN and others say masters for DON.
  14. Congrats on your new found position. You seem as if you are very experienced in the healthcare field and I don't know you but seems like you deserve that position. My goal is to be a DON, I hope I get lucky like you lol but can I just ask you what do you do on a daily basis as a DON. I have read the job description and my Cna instructor was the DON but what is it like everyday. It it stressful? Thank you.
  15. I'm sorry, I have only been on interviews with agencies, but have currently been applying to LTCF and hospitals.
