  1. My 1st job was a NOC RN in a sub acute facilty. There was a culture of sleeping. I tried to motivate staff with it but in the end I know now resident care suffers and why should I have to pick up the slack so my aides can sleep? I told the facility that I refused to work with aides who worked another job. How did they expect people to work 17hrs a day 5 days a week through in a hour commute there also. Impossible.
  2. I refused to be let go and gave notice at a ccrc tired of being miserable because of harassment. Being the lone natural born american at time didst help. I was surprised because I thought it was going to be really great all the diversity. It took me 3 month to find another job but having peace of mind is worth it and a 45% pay raise doesnt hurt. It's sad the culture that prevails in LTC.
  3. This is a very good description of sub acute nursing. Maybe it's just that you actually have time to be a person rather than a robot. I had it in my mind to always go for working in acute care. So thats where am at now and I think back to those personal situations I had at a CCRC and cant even imagine having those on the medsurg floors I work on. I miss the ones with the residents not so much the employees. I find the residents just appreciate the conversation. The employees can always use it politically against you.
  4. That article is pure propaganda. Nobody ever says they make too much. Look at athletes!
  5. Anybody have any situations where it was obvious a teacher was flirting with you. I'm not getting into specifics but I got a little freaked out by an incident. Not that i was scared of the flirting just that I worried because I feared retribution from not responding to it. I almost didnt pass clinical either. I've gotten all B's in the Nursing courses so far I had a high B in this class and up until the last week I'm flunking clinical. If anything I gained alot of respect for the women who have had to endure this type of thing for centuries.
  6. I've done my best to stay away from these situations. I learned in the military that this is the best policy. Here the ratio is flipped. It can make for problems because women naturally want to be pursued and when you just act professional they can think of you as stuck up or watch out for the Gay rumors to start flying "He hasnt hit on any of us he must be gay" One girl who I have a interest in is going to be delayed 6mo so I've been contemplating crossing the line.
  7. I hope to do likewise someday I find myself looking at some of my friends and wondering if they could go through the process. I dont think alot would to be able to be honest. Not that this current ratio is natural occuring but I think it is somewhat. As a whole women probably are more compassionate but I dont think its an overwhelming difference. After my Summer as a PCA I reflected on some of the ugly behavior I'd seen from RN's and there were only a few men but I didnt see any of this from the heterosexual men. RN's Are Kinda like women in that way dont piss them off. THats were the bad behavior would come in but the men would just tend to brush it off their shoulder "Wow you all must got me with one" referring to a loogy a lady shot at him wehn we came in. Just my thoughts BTW my moms a RN and think shes great.
  8. I was away from school this summer and I got a Mohawk and it was "highly advisable that I get rid of it" I'll leave that battle up to the 20 somethings but I figured that since our school survival rate is less than 50% why not wear a mohawk since it was meant to be worn into war.
  9. During my 1st weeks as a PCA I was making terrible beds. My opinion but possibly others as well. One day I got this man in his chair (Veteran) Suddendly I got nervous I had to remember how to make a good bed. He was critical of it too. So we spent the morning talking about the finer arts of bed making and I got over my hatred from making beds in bootcamp
  10. I'm taking the STNA class @ cinn ST. you have a choice 8-4:30 for two weeks or the 4 1/2 hours twice a week for about two months but those classes fill up fast as all cinn st sudents in the nursing program have to be a STNA. ALSO you have to have a 2 step ppd done and a minor physical. classes for next term start around apr 18th.I'm starting in May for tweeks plus I have 9 cr hours at night :uhoh21:
  11. I just recently did my nurse aide training as a prerequisite for my nursing school. If I was you I would just"brush your shoulder off". Take a minute with yourself and really look at yourself because from this last message your all over the place. Form LPN to RN to Medical School. I mean shoot for the stars but realize that there are steps in between
