Definitely able to be a wound care or treatment nurse. I am a new grad LPN with previous wound care experience from ALF facilities where I was shift supervisor and the "go to" wound person that the staff and visiting nurses came to. I was offered a position for treatment nurse at my new job and absolutely love it. My LTC has over 150 residents on 3 floors and 5 units. Lots to learn from, and learning new things everyday.

Our CNAs also have shower reports to fill out after every shower to document condition of residents skin, wounds, rashes, etc that isnt normal for resident at that time; which gets turned in to us tx nurses. All residents have weekly skin assessments that are done by the med cart nurses; are assigned at least 2-4 residents per day to do for their units. If they find anything new, they notify us tx nurses. These are just some of the ways we try and head off wounds etc before they start or get any worse. Hope this helps.

I myself am working as a new tx nurse in a LTC/rehab facility that has some acquired wounds. S/Ts and some PUs. The med cart nurses have a tag system. Each tag has a number and says "go see your nurse when you find this". These are meant for the CNAs. The nurses record tag# and time it was placed/taped on brief. That way we can ensure our residents are being taken care of. This doesnt happen on a daily basis. Just either as a "every-so-often" basis to make sure CNAs are doing good or when there are CNAs that we suspect not doing their job up to our standards.

Dont feel bad. Being a new grad is hard b/c of the lack of experience. Here in GA PSA only post jobs for at least a yrs experience. Im a new grad too. Sent out resumes via fax and online to approx 30 different facilities/companies. Finally found a good paying position at a LTC. Chin up and dont give up. Hugs:)

Here in GA, as a new grad LPN you can work in LTC , Dr's offices, and private care. After working in LTC for a year you can find jobs in home health, dialysis centers, some Cancer tx centers, and hospices. Yes there are nursing homes that are under-funded, but there are some that are not. Just have to weed thru, and find the good ones. I plan on sticking it out for at least a year in LTC so that I can move on to what I want to do, hospice or home health care. Fell in love with hospice as a CNA and love doing wound care! As an LPN you will do, practice, and learn a lot of procedures (trach care, foley cath, starting IVs, blood draw, etc,) in the LTC facilities. Also here, LTC facilities may more than Dr's offices. But pay isn't everything😄
