  1. We had a patient named Mr. Bulalac, which in filipino is "Flower". One of my co-workers kept on referring to him as Mr. Bulbulac. Guess what, in filipino, "bulbul" is pubic hair and "bulac" is cotton. Well Hello Mr. Cotton-Pubic hair!
  2. Here's something we ca me up with at my hospital a loooong time ago -- it's not a cath specimen, but it is a sterile sample -- take a medium-sized tegaderm, place a few sterile 2x2's in the center, place it on the child and let nature take its course - the kids never complained, and we were able to squeeze the enough of the urine into a sample bottle
  3. Some hospitals have programs that offer a lot of support for future nurses - in our hospital in Corpus Christi, there's a program that lets you go to school full time and in return, you work 20 hours a week and you get paid for 40 hours a week. There is a condition that you agree to work for the hospital for 2 years afterwards. Not only that, there is tuition reimbursement up to $3000/year and you are eligible for the sign-on bonus at the time you sign up. Fortunately, Canadians were offered this plan too! With a little bit of research, perhaps you can get some help with school. Good Luck to you!
  4. Last night, one of our newer CNA's, Ana, came to me and asked me if "the patient in room 6204" was allowed to get out of bed. I said simply that no she was on bedrest. Ana then said that she had seen Mrs. Garcia walking down the hallway, wearing her hospital gown and waved to her (the CNA) before entering her room. I told Ana that was impossible because that patient was unable to get out of bed by herself. Ana insisted that she saw "Mrs. Garcia". I brought Ana to room 6204 and pointed to Mrs. Garcia's outline. Her bilateral AKA amputations where very much visible under the covers. Unfortunately, Mrs. Garcia had also died sometime earlier. Perhaps Ana knew Mrs. Garcia had passed away and was just pulling my leg....
  5. I have my 3 year RN diploma and will be starting my BSN/MSN program this summer. Unfortunately, I have been told by many colleges that a lot of my basic credits will not transfer into the BSN programs. Now I have to take algebra again...after 10 years! Sheesh, doesn't 2+2 equal 5 in the ADN program like it does in the diploma program? :rotfl:
