Thanks for that info:nuke: I have now emailed several uni's that I have found but always welcome more. While searching the boards here I came across an old post that suggested that if I was to stay in the UK and graduate with my Bsc in Nursing, which will be 18 months from now, I could come over to Oz by applying directly for registration in my chosen State and get in on a work visa. Then after 12 months experience in chosen State I could then apply for permanent residency, is this true? Is this possible with no experience? I would prefer to do this rather than go through the whole immigration process straight away, plus it get's me to Oz quicker:chuckle In the UK our Nursing course is 50% theory and 50% practical, so although I will have loads of clinical exp, it won't be as a RN, but as a student RN. My husband would be coming with me, but as he will be 32 when I graduate, will that put a dampner on things? As I understood it a works visa was only granted for 18-30yr olds. Thanks Summer

Hi all I am interested in living and working in Australia, specifically Sydney or Brisbane. I am currently in 2nd year of my Bsc of Adult Nursing in the UK. My question is does anyone know of any Universities/Colleges that will accept International Students possibly transfer students? Obviously I realise I would have to pay for my education, but I figured this would be a good way to see if I really do want to immigrate here. I lived in Sydney when I was younger, left when I was 13, so I realise it has all changed. My fiance has never been before so this seems to be a good way to get a feel for the city, I know I'll likely never want to leave when I graduate though... I still have loads of family in Sydney but I don't mind studying in Brisbane either. Please let me know. Thanks

Thank you so much, I can see the light:chuckle I am currently a 2nd year Student nurse studying Adult Nursing, I won't be short on any Medical or Surgical but I will def be short on Paeds, Maternity and Mental Health. Do you think I should contact them now, just to ask what I require. I already know how many hours I have for Med/Sur (or will have by the time of Graduation) I am getting married in Florida in August and when I come back I will be in 3rd year, so our aim is to sell up within that year and move asap after I graduate. We are hoping to have enough money from the sale of the house. I am willing to go to any state to make up these hours. BTW do you mean Burlington County College? Thanks

Can anyone give me the names of any of the Schools that may take someone as a guest student to top up hours? I'm not worried what State they are in, I just want a light at the end of the tunnel.... Thanks

Oooh, I'd be very interested to hear the answer to this myself. I was hoping to maybe go over on a Student Visa, that way I could study and live there and if I really like it could maybe try and apply to stay permanently after I graduate.

I can't find anything relating to this course that OGP is offering on their website. Plus it states that you must have at least one years experience, I suppose by the time I get over there I likely will but it means I couldn't apply until I have:scrying: It looks like Sydney, Australia is beginning to call louder now....

Unfortunately my University seems to be the only ones that do not offer electives in other areas. The elective I chose to do is A & E as I figured I may get some clinical hours there, also this is where my interest lies. So far my clinical placements have been as follows: Infection Unit (Medical) 262.50hrs Holburn Clinic (Community) 262.50hrs Westview (Care of The Elderly) 300.00hrs Orthopaedics (Surgical) 262.50hrs currently on this placement. I have these placements still to do: Maryfield West Nursing Home (Care of The Elderly) 262.50hrs Ear Nose and Throat (Surgical) 300.00hrs A & E (Medical/Surgical) 450.00hrs Community 450.00hrs Surgical and Medical are not a problem but Mental Health, Paediatrics and Maternity will be. When I was on my Community placement I did gain Mental Health, Paediatrics and Maternity clinical hours and I assume in 3rd year I will have to do the same. I think at present I have approx 25hrs Maternity, 30 hrs Paeds and 30 hrs Mental Health although I do also have 40 hours Mother and Child. I assume that the University has a log of these somewhere. I don't think however that the University logs Theory time for these disciplines. In first year we did get some general training but not much and as far as I am aware there will be no log for this. My Course leader will not want to help me gain these hours as they have often told us they are not training us to immigrate abroad. It looks like my only way is to do this abroad:bluecry1: unless of course there are any colleges/uni's in the Uk that can offer this?

I am looking into the qucikest and easiest way possible to come to the States. I am particularly interested in the Boston/New England area. I am a 2ndyr Student Nurse currently residing in the UK and I realise that I will be short of Paeds/Mental Health and Obstetric Hours. I understand that I would have to attend college in the States to make up these hours. Does anyone know of the Colleges available to me? Especially ones in the New England area! Would I obtain a Student Visa to study this or another type of visa? Also when I obtain these hours is it then possible to sit the NCLEX exam and stay in the Boston area while looking for work, or would I have to return to the UK and do it from there? I have tried looking into this and have emailed several agencies, but I think it may be better to do this myself as you hear all kinds of things about agencies:chair: I do not have a problem about studying in the States, but I heard I would only need to go for about 4 months, is this correct? Hi all I am currently a 2ndyr Student Nurse studying Adult Nursing and I currently reside in the UK. When I graduate I hope to move to the US, I am particularly interested in Massachusetts, Boston in particular. I know when I graduate I will be short on the req hours in Paeds, Mental Health and Obstetrics but I hope to attend a college over there to gain the req hours. Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows of any hospitals I could directly apply to that may sponser foreign grads also what exams other than the NCLEX will I need? I hear that the requirements are different for each state. Would I be best to go through an agency? I know I still have 18 months to go, but time does fly and I would like to have a clear goal in mind:) Thanks

So for example, if I was to apply for a working visa which allows me to stay in Australia for 12 months and work with one employer for up to 6 months, could I work as a nurse? I was hoping to maybe work with an agency or something first so that I could settle down before commiting myself to a job in a certain area. I figured I could look for something permanent while on my working visa, then apply for permanent residency. This would also give my fiance and I the chance to make sure immigration is definately what we want. My fiance will be over 30 though by the time I apply, although he will be my husband, what visa options are open to him? Thanks

Hi I also want to go to Sydney and work but it'll be the tail end of 2008 for me:o Is it possible to go over on a working visa and then apply for permanent residency while there? I have loads of family in Sydney and lived there myself for 5 years when I was younger. I'm getting married next year and graduate in 2008 so my hope is to go over pretty much as soon as I graduate. Can I confirm if this applies to Adult Nursing Diploma students as well as Adult Nursing Degree Students? I am currently a 2nd yr Adult Diploma Student, hoping to graduate with the degree, I just have to pass all of my exams first time! My concern is if I graduate with the diploma, is that enough to start the immigration process, or do I really need the degree?

Hi all I currently reside in Scotland and have completed my first year of Nursing at University level. However after serious consideration I have decided that because I have always wanted to live in the States it would seem more appropriate that I complete my training in the States. I am aware that if I was to complete my training here, I would be short of Mental Health, Paediatrics and Obstetrics hours. At present I am enrolled on a BSc in Adult Nursing and commence 2nd yr in September. I am not picky as to which part of California I go to, I am not familiar with any of the Universities or Colleges however so would like some guidance as to my best options. Hi guys I was wondering what it's like to Nurse in a big hospital in Sydney. I am almost finished my 1st yr in Nursing and I hope to do Forensic Nursing (Sexual Assault Examiner) but work in the ER while doing this. Are the Er's busy in Sydney? I live in a relatively small place in the UK and the ER here can be quite dull, I know I work better under pressure so I am hoping that I can find a home in the ER in Sydney. As far as Forensic Nursing goes it is only the SANE, law aspect I am interested in, not working in Prisons or with repeat offenders. This has always been a huge interest for me, would this career be possible in Sydney? Thanks Summer

Hi all I know I don't graduate until March 2008, but I was wondering how long it would take to apply to get in as a new Graduate? I have been surfing the web and understand that several hospitals offer programmes to recent graduates, but I realise that to gain a place on this, it is very competitive. So my query is when should I start making applications to the hospitals for this Graduate Programme? I am anxious to come over as soon as I graduate, so this would be perfect for me.
