  1. I'm in Bronx, NY. yes, i'm expected to do the assessments on top of putting on patients. If there's any problem on the unit, am expected to be able to solve them until the charge nurse comes.
  2. hi! i'm a dialysis rn here in NY and I'm really interested in doing massage therapy. Does anybody know where I can get training here in NY? thanks
  3. I am an new hemo agency nurse with one year experience in hemodialysis from my country employed by this facility. I'm a new nurse here in the U.S. During my first months here, I also voiced my concern to the medical director and he told me that if I don't feel comfortable opening up by myself, then I should wait for the other nurse. But I also don't want the patients to wait that long.
  4. If the nurse manager is there, there's no problem. But when he's not there then that's the problem. Just last week, I opened the unit by myself with 3PCTs with 1 orientee nurse for 2 days. To top it off, 2 of the patients were in distress and I also had to handle all patient related phone calls. I really had a rough morning that day. I might need to talk to my nurse manager again.
  5. I'm a new nurse in an outpatient dialysis center, less than a year. We are short on regular nurses in the unit and sometimes I'm the only nurse opening the unit with 3-4 PCTs for 24 patients. The other nurse comes in 2-3 hours later or the other nurse calls out. I'm not comfortable with that and I have told my nurse manager many times already. Is it alright to wait for the other nurse before putting patients on the machine?
  6. That is what I've been telling them. It was never stated in the contract. I read the contract many times and made clarifications over and over again before signing it. BTW, I have to pay them $8,400 if I don't finish my 3-yr contract with them. Actually, they are asking me to do 4-5 days, 12-hr shift in the same facility. I said no. I just came here and there are still some adjustments to do especially as this is my first winter here. I don't want to overdo it. When I first got my paycheck, i asked them again what's my hourly rate, and I was told that I don't work on an hourly basis, i get paid, as a salaried employee, whatever annual salary stated on my contract divided by 52 weeks. They've been pushing me to work 40 hours/wk. My last two paychecks had a pay cut amounting to the 4 hours difference. I want to know if they are justified in doing that and if there's something that I can do? I left my contract at a friend's house in NJ coz she has a fire-resistant vault in her house. I live alone and I don't want to leave all my important documents at home. :) Thanks so much for the reply suzanne.
  7. hi suzzane! i've been a member in this forum since i was still in the philippines and it had been a great help in terms of giving me information that i sorely needed back then. I have a question though. I've been here in the states for about 2 1/2 months now (NY) working as a hemodialysis nurse in an outpatient facility. I'm under an agency. I work 3 days/week at 12.5 hours a day. My agency pays me on a weekly basis, as a salaried employee. No mention about working 40 hrs a week on the contract but now my agency is requiring me to work an additional 4 hours per week to add to the 36 hours i do every week. I thought that if you worked 12 hrs/day that its already considered like working for 40 hrs. can you enlighten me on this? Im planning on having a talk with my agency coz the facility that im working on right now said that they can't give me a 4 day, 10 hr shift coz they need nurses on a 12 hr shift. thanks so much
  8. thanks, rep. :)
  9. I already asked the immigration lawyer that... and he said that in the event that I do not pass the NCLEX.... i will have to retake the NCLEX ASAP... now in the case that its not possible... i will have to be deployed before the expiration of the visa.
  10. yes the visa is in the passport. they want that together with the other documents given by the US embassy, the one you have to present to the immigration officer at the port of entry.
  11. thanks so much suzanne. :)
  12. My employer is requiring me to take and pass the NCLEX before deployment. They want to make sure that I'll be able to work right away upon arrival in NY. I already told them that it will be more practical to just deploy me and then take the NCLEX in NY. What's the cost of sending me to Saipan? around $500-$600? They're just gonna add a couple of hunded dollars more and it's already my plane ticket to the US, right? I really don't know what they're thinking right now. My philippine agency on the other hand is asking that I surrender the visa to them. I've been asking them why and up to now they have not replied yet. I think they're going to hold my visa to make sure that am not a flight risk. Are they really allowed to hold on to the visa? I'm really disappointed with my agency right now. I got no support from them before, during and after the interview.
  13. A huge thanks to you guys. :thankya: I really appreciate all the info i got from this forum. :) now all i need to do is review for the NCLEX. I'll be taking it in saipan on sept 10. wish me luck!!!!
  14. Hi all! Just want to share the good news with you guys. I was interviewed this monday, august 8. The visa and passport was delivered today at 11am!!!! :balloons: :Melody:
  15. Hi! My embassy interview is on Aug. 8 :balloons: I need to have my medical exam anytime next week. This question is for those that already had their medical exam here in the Philippines. I just would like to ask if the $95 is inclusive of the vaccine fees? I just want to know so I'll be prepared. thanks :)

  17. hi! my case was completed December 21, 2004. When I called up NVC during that time, I was told to wait for 8 wks to receive something.... up to now I have not received anything yet. btw, my priority date is April 14, 2004. When I asked my immigration lawyer, he told me to wait approximately 2-3 months, then I will be interviewed by the US embassy Manila. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed...
  18. Hi PresC. I had my review class with URC. Am planning to go back and sit in one of these days. I also enrolled online with NCSBN for 3 weeks. I have the Mosby book and CD. Honestly, I don't know if I'm that ready to take the exam. Thanks so much for the info. I'll look into the site you've given me probably tomorrow. Am sleepy right now. take care
  19. Hi Suzanne4. Thanks for the info. I asked the agency about it and was told that they we're going to ask me to take it before deployment. I'm thinking that maybe I should be taking it now and get it over with. Might as well do something while waiting for the retrogression. I'm just wondering if the certificate has a validity period or something.
  20. Hi! NVC completed administrative processing of my papers. Can anybody tell me what's the next thing that I'm going to do? When I called up NVC last December 2004 and I was told that 8 weeks after December 21, the lawyer will be receiving a notice from I don't know where. Thanks.
  21. Hi Suzanne4. Where do I sign up for this course? can you give the site? thanks. So there's no waiver for not taking the course at all? I need to speak to the immigration lawyer again. Do I need that for the licensure just like PresC? Thanks.
  22. Hi PresC... Hmm... I think I should talk to my lawyer again regarding the child abuse course. Regarding NCLEX, it would be nice if we have the same date in taking the exam... Where are you going to take it? Saipan or Guam? let's keep in touch ok? :)
  23. Hi Monica33. I took the TSE. IELTS was still not offered then. :) You're signed up with whiteglove right? How are they in terms of processing your papers? I was supposed to sign up with them. My auntie sent me a contract. I had some doubts coz they don't have a partner here in the Philippines (but now they do).
  24. hi presC. I'll be taking the NCLEX in March or April of this year as per the immigration lawyer. They haven't paid for it yet. I received a letter from NY-ED 2nd week of January asking for the payment. With regards to the child abuse course, I was told that I can just sign a waiver stating that I will not be taking care of children so I won't be taking the course. I'm not sure though if that's what I'm supposed to do. How about you? Have you taken the NCLEX? Allnurses.com really helped me a lot in terms of my questions. It's so nice to be able to communicate with nurses not only from the Philippines but from other countries as well. Hope to hear from you again. :)
