Excelsior is NOT affiliated with TCN (The College Network) so there is no requirement to use them - many people even suggest you stay away from them. LPN's are not allowed to waive the clinical exam though, regardless of where they practice currently - so I am not sure where you heard that. You are allowed to waive one of the theory exams depending on your nursing program. The good thing with Excelsior as well is that many of your classes that wouldn't transfer to a traditional college from your LPN program would still transfer at Excelsior. I would recommend if you are thinking about them at all, you contact them directly and work with an advisor as that will be the most correct and up to date info you will get. I have not found any other programs online that will allow you to get your RN without physically attending a class other than them. Best of luck!
No one responded? I am interested in this info as well, I will be done with my Excelsior ASN in about 6 mos, and I am already a CPM/LM in Florida, was planning to apply to the Frontier bridge program the minute I have my RN in my hand....would love to hear others experience with this!
It wasn't for nursing school, but for midwifery school in Florida. I lived in Tampa and went to school 3 days a week in Miami (4 to 5 hour drive depending on traffic each way) at MDC College for 2 years....it sucked, but it was worth it to get my midwifery license! Luckily I was able to do my clinicals at home. (and at that point I had 4 kids already) It just depends on what the benefits are over the detriments for that particular program and you. Is it a well known program? Would they be willing to work with you and maybe help you get in to do clinicals with local nursing students so you just have to drive for your didactic portion? Is it a less expensive/shorter etc program than your local program? good luck!
