  1. Or does anyone know of any vitamins or herbals that are known to improve vascular health?
  2. I'm sure we all know that the healthcare professions are known for giving varicose veins with the long hours of standing. I am a new nurse and I'm already starting to see the dreaded little squiggly veins in my calves. My question is, would knee high compression stocking honestly help, or would knee high socks do about the same thing? I love my job, but I don't want to sacrifice my body or health. I need to find a good way to keep my legs healthy, while working a job where I'm standing for atleast 7 of the 8 hours. Any suggestions!?
  3. After getting my License, I was job hunting for about 3 months before I got a single call back. I'm from PA and there are a decent amount of hospitals that do not hire LPN's. I filled out 58 applications including hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities. I start at an assisted living facility tomorrow. It was the only facility that called that did not require previous facility experience. My preference was a hospital med surg floor, because I want to pick up as much experience as I can, but you have to start somewhere I suppose. This facility will give me the experience I need with the average routines, chartings, orders, and doctors etc. But as far as actual medical experience, not as much as I would like. I am excited to have the job though, and I'm hoping for it to be a great experience. :)
  4. I agree that we should have the right to disagree. Vaccinations are not for everyone. Yes I have had all the main ones that are required, but I do not feel the need to get a flu vaccination. I'm not one of the people that think you shouldn't put unknown substances into your body or anything, but I do know that the only times that I've gotten the flu in my life have been the two years that i got the vaccine. And both times i was extremely ill after receiving it, so i personally choose to not get it. I have worn a mask during patient care through peak flu season, and yes it does slow down/ hinder care, but i find my health just as important as any of my patients or colleagues. If I'm not in good shape/ health how can I care for others? Looking from one perspective it is a good idea to make them mandatory, but that doesn't suit everyone. Thats my view on the situation.
  5. I'm in an LPN 16 month program, I'm also in my last stretch in advanced med surg, with three months left. The last 13 months flew by, but now time is going slower than ever because I can see the finish. Any tips on keeping up with the studying? I've always been great about studying, yet I'm getting that "senioritis" feeling now, its getting hard to focus on what I'm studying.
