The nurses every co-worker hates
Why in healthcare are we taught so heavily about inter-cultural communication and acceptance on how other cultures communicate (IE eye contact, facial expressions, body language, gestures and so forth? Yet when it come to co-workers if your not perky-jerky your rude, lol? The way I learned not to think someone is rude/mean? I kept my mouth shut about my feelings on the person's interactions and watched how they communicated with others. 9 out of 10 x it was the same as me. That's how learned it wasn't personal and Voila suddenly it didn't bother me anymore! Just my 2 cents!

Name Badges Worn Backwards
This has happend to me many times as i run around like a chicken with my head cut off all over my unit. To mention having errr large assets its bounces and flips over constantly. I always introduce myself at the begining of my shift before sundown haha (I work nights). I will say that there is NOTHING more annoying as after a labor intensive round to have a co worker say OMG you name tag is back wards. Considering I'm considerate to my patients rest time and dont put all the lights on uless its needed it IRKS me....like oh IM SORRY I forgot my people have night vision...lol. We have one bitter RN on our unit who makes it her duty to point this out constantly. Its not as annoying to me anymore considering she does it to us all.

Navy Nurse
I to am heavily considering this option here is ALOT of info (My aunts a active duty navy nurse and husband is active duty officer as well btw ) -You HAVE to have a BSN to get commissioned no if and or buts and it MUST be CCNE accredited! -If your not in the NCP (Nurse candidacy program ) they want some RN experience depending on your back round and education they may be willing to work with you. -NCP is a program were the navy gives you a grant to pay for school and a monthly stipend (1k a month) It's very competitive and you MUST be enrolled in a BSN (CCNE accredited program) with a maximum of 24 months before graduation - You don't go to the common enlisted boot camp. You go to OCS (officer candidate school) its a less mentally alarming environment with a emphasis on teaching you officers mannerisms and mentality, with that being said its not vacation, its still rigorous and there's a focus on physical fitness and conditioning. It's 6/8 weeks in Rhode Island -You don't get a specialty, they rotate you around a hospital for the first 3 yrs (so you get a little bit of everything) - Although its always a possibility going to a war zone isn't as common for nurses in the navy (from what my aunt says a lot of the ones that do go are volunteering to go for further advancement as after you hit o3 you stop advancing automatically after 2yrs ) What I'd strongly suggest is to talk to a recruiter! Take what they say with a grain of salt and if it sounds nto good to be true IT PROBABLY IS! lol Amanda :)

Impossible New Grad market Tacoma/Lakewood Area?
I just moved from WA a year ago although i was not a nurse when i lived there. i can say as i worked as a cna and 4 of my family member were new RNs that its not as hard as some say! My previous work hired new grad rn/lpns CONSTANTLY, It was HRC manor care gig harbor (much more upscale then the Tacoma ,Lakewood ones but they still aren't that bad!) its a SNF/Sub acute that take ALOT of post op med/surg patients when when st Anthony's in gig harbor is full so you'd be able to gain acute exp as well as long term. Its not a fancy hospital job but i can say after working with people that went from cna to rn/lpn and having alot of friends that worked there as new grads that its not bad at all. they pay isnt bad either i believe (dont quote me that a new rn is around 25) i saw many go onto jobs at the hospitals and so forth! there are ALOT of places to work as far as nursing homes, home-care, agency (some YIKES hire new grads), clinics, and so forth! If you need suggestions on the area let me know ! Im from gig harbor and family lives in lakewood! Also western state (state job) hires new grads to, good poay but its mental health. Any questions let me know!

Start LPN School Next Week!
So I cant believe after 4yrs as a CNA I'm starting nursing school! It was not always easy as I had a hard time deciding to stick with it. I moved from WA state were all the LPN , ADN, & BSN programs in my area are back logged due to wait lists (so even having all the pre reqs with a 3.9 i couldn't get in, very disheartening ! I now live in VA and the first LPN program i applied to i was accepted into! Im excited i can actually afford to pay this program ($5200 and 18 months) Its not $35k like MCI's LPN program and itll only take a few more months to complete and i can xfer my credits to an RN program! I also have about 60credits (AA degree) in RN pre-reqs and general ed. SO after i get my LPN I can bridge to BSN fairly easy! Ultimate goal is to be a Navy Nurse! Anyways It feels great to be one step closer to my dream! If anyone has any advice or questions please let me know!!!
